I mean, I've certainly been actively online since the 90s, including pre-internet BBSs and the like. I guess I just missed this one. Must of not been in any of the web rings I was a part of.

Which is relevant, because it means zombo.com was launched near the peak of the dot com bubble (burst in 2000). Makes complete sense.

That's one of my favorite XKCDs.
And web rings were indeed cool. I had a number of websites at the time using them and even made some great friends through those associations.
