Important question

What do you mean, potatoes are closer to tomatoes than to sweet potatoes or onions?
Botany is a scam.
I was super proud of myself last month, because I saw the leaves of a potato plant for the first time and my first thought was that it looked like tobacco. Turns out, tobacco’s also a nightshade!
Botany is fucking weird, but especially nightshades: staple carbs, deadly poisons, fucked up psychotropics, nicotine, capsaicin, a bunch of semisweet edible berries (from physalis to tomatoes to eggplants), and of course, peanuts.

two are not like the others
They're all fried tubers. I'll let it slide. The real travesty is no fried yuca on the list.

Best to worst:
- Wedges
- Shoestring
- Curly
- Waffle
- Sweet Potato (love sweet potatoes, but as fries they're mediocre at best)
- Tots (if filled with cream cheese they're #2)
- Zigzag
- Onion Rings (don't even belong on this list. Otherwise maybe #5)

Posting such a controversial question and putting in onion rings on this list is bordering on rage bait
Edit: I can't type

- Tots (The huge crunchy)
- Zigzag (The staple chicken side)
- Shoestring (Though they're so common that they get old)
- Curly (Big mass)
- Waffle (A little too wide)
Weirdos:
Wedges (The Bagpipe Theorem: Phenomenal when it's good, terrible when it's bad, it is at the top and the bottom of the list)
Sweet Potato (I tend to not like sweeter things)
Onion Rings (Please God I have ARFID that's not good crunchy)

Jack in the Box curlies from 20 years ago before they switched to a different frying oil. I was just arriving in the states and that stuff was the best ever.

Sweet Potato is at least a potato.
Potatoes are a member of the Nightshade family.
Sweet "Potatoes" are from the Morning Glory family.
Completely separate genus. Even though they can be mostly cooked and prepared similarly, they are not related.

Sweet Potato fries turn out way better than regular potato in an air fryer if you're buying frozen ones to make at home.
I bought a spice grinder and made a spice mix for my sweet potato fries. Its a mix of salt, old bay, montreal steak seasoning and dried chilli flakes and its awesome.
Hard agree. The only issue is frozen sweet potato fries are way more expensive than regular. I try to make my own at home but can’t get the same crispness in the air fryer.

They are at least relatives.
Not really.

It’s not worth respecting something that clearly belongs on the bottom of the list.

Chip shop chips > roast potato > steak fries > everything on this list
