The fact anon used IPA as an example in the context of "acronyms they had to go look up the meaning of" says a lot about them, ngl.

I've found some of the more shit post focused communities to actually be useful (or at least I did back when i still used Reddit).
PrisonHooch had more helpful advice and recommendations than HomeBrewing; PoliticalCompassMemes actually allowed space for Leftists to debate the Far-Right; Cremposting was where you went to discuss your tinfoil hat theory's on the works of Brandon Sanderson; etc. (I know there was a dozen or so of these I used to lean into, but those are the three that immediately come to mind).

Indeed, one thing I love about being trans is that it gives me a radar for if someone is being based or just an asshole.
