Not really. Theoretically you can use Google Maps as a compass, but otherwise no. Per the article: Shockingly, Google is yet to build its own native compass or level tool app for Android. Most third-party phone makers have taken matters into their own hands, but modern Pixel phones still don't provide a user-facing app for accessing coordinates, altitude, magnetism, and other useful metrics. Thankfully, Compass has you covered.

I’m not opposed to a name change. I’m not really great at marketing tbh. Here’s the thing, I kinda hate the Lemmy branding. The technology is wonderful, but I find the logo kinda off putting. I really wanted to build an app that felt cool to use. Naming things is hard, and I’m not claiming that I did better than Lemmy. I also understand most people here probably either like or have no problem with the name. When I set out to build Blorp, my goal was to appeal to a broader audience. I would love to help bring in new users to Lemmy. ~8 months later, here I am and I think if shifted focus a little to making current Lemmy users want to use my app. I would still love to bring in new users, but that poses the challenge of helping them understand federated social media. I’m kinda rambling now, but there’s some context. But if someone wanted to build out some alternative branding including a logo, I’d be open to the idea. But it would take time to switch things over and really don’t want to sacrifice the limited time I have to solve bugs. What I really need if we want to scale this project up is some help. That could be submitting bugs, helping organize GutHub issues, researching out to existing Blorp users to collect feedback, writing code, help marketing to new users. Any of those would be helpful.

Enable dark mode and you'll be fine? While using the apps of course. Or you mean you'd like dark mode to be enabled for the screenshots? Images don't work that way unfortunately. 🄲

The earlier flips were even better in this respect because the outer screen was so small it basically only functioned as a clock and notification panel. It's kind of a shame that style hasn't been retained by at least one manufacturer.

I mentioned the brand as an example of the feature's popularity. People stopped buying them because they stopped being made, not the other way around. Like other physical controls on cellphones disappearing, I suspect it's a reflection of the cost to produce rather than any technical benefit or a statement of what people want. That's why so many people still use their decades-old phones today.

it both sounds horrifying, and fantastic. I wish they wouldn't have had to try figuring that out in these circumstances

I have had a different experience and perspective; I had a fold 5 and now have a pixel 9 fold and I love it. I have bigish hands and appreciate a larger keyboard. I watch basically any content I consume via my phone and love the screen size, but I agree about the screens aspect ratio especially on the pixel. I enjoy having a bigger screen to game on and emulate non android games on. I installed moonlight and sunlight and, with the addition of a controller, can now PC game from anywhere without bringing a steamdeck or similar device, which rocks. I don't find it heavy or cumbersome but I also wear stuff with big pockets usually and I could see it being too much for someone who doesnt. I did have ux issues with both phones on occasion but more with the fold 5; I can full screen most games on the fold and it tends to work. I also like multitasking with it by putting apps aside by side, though I'm still getting in the habit of using it. So it's definitely not perfect and probably not worth it for some people, especially given the price tag, but I'd say it's been worth it for me personally. I'd love for a foldable made by a different brand (not a fan of Samsung or Google) with a better aspect ratio for viewing 16:9, qi2, better fast charging, bigger battery, and hell better custom ROM support while I'm requesting miracles haha. That said I'm hoping this tech is still relatively immature and that we'll continue to see improvement in both hardware and resolution support and maybe I should be more cynical on that front.

Because these glasses are quite powerhungry. If i remember correctly from a review a steamdeck used 5W more with the glasses plugged in and the built in steamdeck screen off compared to the steam running regularly. IDK how much the oled screen of the steamdeck consumes but the glasses consume those 5W on top of that! A built-in battery for an adequate runtime would make those glasses even heavier, bulkier and goofier then they already are.
