Late 1980s, the Ambassador Motel in Grand Forks, ND. My family spent a weekend there while vacationing. Dingy, dirty, fights broke out in the hallway.

I'm saying the industry generally bundles them together as the top level genre. So awards and funding is first considered at the sci-fi/fantasy combined level. Again, the point was to note the difference between the major genre level where the money and awards are (sci-fi/fantasy, dominated by men) versus the possibility that OP is seeing a sample influenced by The Algorithm (potentially niche sub-genres, potentially more self-published books). Not trying to make some political comment here, just pointing out some reasons OP might be seeing demographics they didn't expect.

Funny story - we used to have little in-house tournaments after work before a release, which I sometimes played in just for fun - I sucked at the game. But one time I was literally walking into the tournament room and just decided nah, not tonight, and went home. Found out the next day, everybody who participated in that one received a free Black Lotus.

Depends on what changed. Axis victory would have hinged on three possible outcomes: The United States staying out of the conflict (no Pearl Harbour assault, no German u-boat attacks on American vessels, and Hitler & Mussolini not declaring war on the USA in response to the US declaration of war on Japan.) Operation Barbarossa not happening. British defeat or withdrawal from the war. In a scenario where the Japanese never attacked Pearl Harbour and never dragged the USA into the conflict, Hitler may have been able to eventually conquer Britain, turn his efforts towards Operation Barbarossa and take control of the entire European continent, along with parts of Asia. The Holocaust would likely have still happened, as the Final Solution was put in place six months prior to the Battle of Stalingrad, which turned the tide of the war in our current timeline. Lack of US involvement leads to a scenario where nuclear weapons would not have been invented until much later, as Germany had not actually been working on weapons of mass destruction, and the Manhattan Project would never have occurred. World War III would likely have been fought between the Nazis/Japanese and Soviets, while the US would have remained isolationist. A scenario where Operation Barbarossa never happens (neither Hitler nor Stalin attack each other) may be different. Hitler consolidates his European gains, never attacks the Soviet Union and focuses his efforts purely on the United States and Africa, securing many wins without his armies being stretched so thin. In that scenario, Jews are likely exiled to penal colonies established in Africa or the Middle East, from lands conquered from the British. The Holocaust may happen further down the line, but some historians think it was the unique wartime conditions on the Eastern Front that led to the Final Solution being considered - Nazi Germany actually tried resettling Jews in other lands prior to WW2. British withdrawal (Hitler negotiating peace with Churchill) or defeat (Nazi Germany winning the Battle for Britain) may have led to Operation Barbarossa happening sooner, and with the Soviet Union not so far along in their industralization efforts, they would have likely lost Stalingrad, Petrograd and possibly Moscow. It either would have been a long and bloody war of attrition or a swift Soviet loss.

Full disk encryption with LUKS. Don't really see much point in a TPM for booting my personal device, although it definitely has use cases and I don't know what's backdoorsy about it.

China won't ever go against West directly, especially with something involving nukes.

Lost. It taught me many little things about how to live life. One particular thing which I think was the most influential was Jack’s father asking him to feel the fear. It was something like “It’s okay to feel fear. Feel all the fear you have for 5 seconds (count to 5) and then don’t look back”. I might have messed up paraphrasing a lot but the meaning is still there.

I remember bringing up some LGBT stuff to them before. I told them that I initially started questioning religion because it was upsetting to me that my sibling would be sent to hell simply for being gay. Interestingly, they seem to not believe the anti-gay rhetoric of their religion, which is a relief. Trans issues are another matter which does frustrate me a bit...they seem accepting of some trans people in general but have some unfortunate other views on the matter. It is difficult sometimes to reconcile stuff like this though, I agree. No idea what they think on deportation, but why do you bring up human trafficking? Human trafficking is pretty universally seen by everyone as a bad thing, even Trumpers. People are individuals and while most of them might lean a certain way, they often have some views that don't fit the stereotypical mold of their demographic if that makes sense. I found out that my friend was vehemetly against bombing Iran despite being a Trumper. As another example that is likely to yield me downvotes, I would consider myself an incredibly liberal person. And I do sympathize with someone like Luigi. But I am very opposed to weirdly celebrating what he did like most of the internet seems to do. Compassion and understanding? Hell yeah. Celebrating shooting people? Not so much. I never talk about this with others because I know how unpopular of an opinion it is on the internet. But I brought it up to my Trumper friend and she feels the exact same way. We are all individuals with our own views and you're not necessarily going to stumble across the "perfect match" with anything. Part of human relationships is learning who you can and can't get along with and working through the points that don't mesh as well. I don't know what I'm babbling on about really.

Favorite and least favorite strategy games: Shogi No real reason. Just something I picked up one day out of boredom on mobile and really liked. It's also my least favorite because I suck at it and sometimes make really dumb mistakes. Favorite chance game: basically anything where there's a roll of the die, a swish of a card turning over, or a clip of a coin. I love randomness, so I don't have a problem with games of chance if I'm not betting anything. Least favorite: gonna have to agree with OP on this one.
