Linux

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word “Linux” in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Then why make GUIs, or software installers, or update managers? Let's keep the people in TOP FORM in case of an outage! Hey, it's not like I don't agree with you, but actually I found myself learning faster in spite of the help. Having someone guide you through something is very educational, and getting things wrong is (sadly) a method of contributing a LOT of detritus into your brain. "Let's see, I did this last time, but was that when I fucked up or when I fixed it?" I like it better just learning the right way.

I would like to use it specifically for the sync between machines, because ridicolous terminal commands like with find, grep or checking/comparing used storage volumes is abysmal to remember. I also set up my own server which worked quite well, I just wish the "client" installation as a proper debian package instead of this stupid shell script.

unfortunately 10.2 removed wine 64 loader name too, so anything hard coded to look for it like eac broke

The reason I mentioned i3 and hyprland was specifically to give an XOrg and Wayland alternative. Personally I think hyprland is a way better system than sway

I will do that, thanks for the recommendation! I definitely need to get that knowledge/workflow down before I make my main driver a Linux machine.

Yeah, nowdays DEs embedded customisation options cover so must of their default user-base needs that they are basically rice cookers. And that is how open sauce works, it develops over time according to needs, not based on boardroom needs, monetization-focused panel research, and constant UI changed just for the sake of it.

Nope. I don't really argue much at work. It's a place where I do my job, get paid and get the fuck out. I only argue when they ask for something more than I'm supposed to do/unreasonable. Other than that, fuck all. lol

The issue you have is most likely a BIOS artifact. New drive makes bios think you have EFI based system vs old drive was BIOS. You are not likely to get accurate help here. You don’t need to make drastic moves destroying data, but playing with BIOS settings may help. You may need to identify your system capabilities, to troubleshoot effectively. Here is one way to do that: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Installation_guide#Verify_the_boot_mode I am not saying to install Arch. Just a way to identify your system.

There seems to be less activity on the Android repo. I still have like 13 unreviewed PR's open from last year.

Yes, I have a Surface Pro 11 for my travel laptop and it works well. No notable differences from my previous Dell XPS 13.

There are some devs that I trust to package sure. But when im downloading apps from the discover store I dont really know or care who packaged it. I just want to download the app with some peace of mind. Not all the apps on flathub are packaged by the devs. In the flathub repo, we trust that flathub checked these packages. In the fedora flatpak repo we trust that fedora checked these packages. Personally I do trust the fedora team to provide me secure packages more than I trust the flathub repo. You dont have to and thats fine. One of the reasons I like the fedora repo is that the check the libs used by packages and try to get them updated when they have security vulnerabilities.

Funny I just spend a few hours working on this on my workstation. Tested in VM first before deploying out to my main machine. but here are rough steps: You have to use wine and the browser extension "User-Agent Switcher and Manager" I would say first install the browser extension then log into your RMM agent. The button to remote will appear but won't work. Click the remote in button and Download the 32bit agent from the pop up Then run wine not sudo on that exe file. Once installed you need to make a desktop entry [nano ~/.local/share/applications/ninja-remote.desktop] Change the username and verify the path is correct by checking your wine folder##### #Paste this with the correct path and username [Desktop Entry] Name=NinjaOne Remote Exec=bash -c 'wine "/home/<USERNAME>/.wine/drive_c/users/<USERNAME>/AppData/Roaming/NinjaRemote/ncplayer.exe" "%u"' Type=Application Terminal=false MimeType=x-scheme-handler/ninjarmm; Second to last Register the desktop Entry: run: xdg-desktop-menu install ~/.local/share/applications/ninja-remote.desktop run: xdg-mime default ninja-remote.desktop x-scheme-handler/ninjarmm Lastly, Paste this in your firefox extension (The we used to trick sites into thinking we are windows) Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/91.0.4472.124 Safari/537.36 Let me know how it goes. Cheers!

Fuck you and your unprompted attack on neurodivergent people, and fuck your "oh I ruffled a few feathers" when you directly and objectively insult and generalize an entire group of people. You sound insufferable, this is is not how you get help nor make friends. Too bad for you, but a large amount of people in tech are neurodivergent, and your post is gonna make sure that all those knowledgeable people now won't want to help you.

I'm surprised nobody has recommended Smart Video Wallpaper Reborn for KDE, but then again, it is an old thread. This is my favorite, it also allows for animated wallaper on the lockscreen.
