after using the steam deck theres literally no way I could go without the trackpads. unless someone comes up with a more natural and faster typing controller mountable kb/m replacement since the trackpads do leave something to be desired there and I still go for the real kb/m if I'm modding a game or doing a lot of work in the terminal. That said the trackpads have been my favourite so far and I really want the steam controller 2 to happen sooner than later.

In Steam, add this to the launch options games where you crash in order to enable logging to a text file: PROTON_LOG=1 %command% (-from: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/wiki/Proton-FAQ) Then there will be a log file of the game in your home directory, named steam-$GAMEID.log. When you're reading that log, the error that causes the freeze should be in the end of the log somewhere. If you just want to log the output of the Steam -d command (if you can't find a crash in the proton log, for example) you can use tee, explained here since you should not just run random terminal commands you find online without knowing what they do: https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/tee-command-linux-example/ steam -d | tee ~/steam.log It'll write the output of steam -d to the terminal so you can read it, and also to the steam.log in your home directory.

From the promotional materials I've seen so far, the game seems to be a showcase for the SpacetimeDB backend so this move does actually make sense.

and as soon as intel stops being the underdog in GPUs, they wont either. Right now they are in the media/consumer blitz stage to generate attention and reputation. Hence all their "good" behavior. give it a few years of success and they'll be back to paying OEMs to not use competitor products.

There are some differences in what can be installed, like steam has a list and lutris has a list of which orotons can be installed, some of those are in common. I would recommend downloading protonupqt lutris and steam and play with them for a bit.

Man, when people hate on something, they really turn off all logical parts of their brain, or at least the critical thinking part.

Latest drivers and packages? yes: Arch, Fedora, Bazzite no: Debian Want to do maintenance work, set it up and learn? yes: Arch some: Fedora, Debian none: Bazzite Note: Bazzite is so established that Marvel Rivals' developer Netease has released game patches targeting that distro specifically. It's the current most recommended gaming diestro. I use Aurora on my laptop & Bazzite on my desktop.

Could be the AMD CPU (had a few kernel issues with that CPU, for example on anything newer than 6.10 the laptop doesn't wake from sleep, that's a well-documented issue either with the CPU or the chipset), could be the mobile 4070, could be because I'm using Fedora (some of the issues I have like the one with performance randomly dropping to single-digit FPS and that not clearing up with a reboot are reported quite often on Fedora), could be something entirely different. I'm on a budget gaming laptop (Lenovo LOQ), could be that they messed up something there, don't know. I haven't even touched HDR so far, because the base function isn't there. Games on Steam don't tend to give me trouble, for some reason it works better there, but I don't have 300 or so free games on Steam.

Rocket League has been running smoothly for me, even before they stopped supporting the linux client and before switching to epic. I'm running Fedora 42 Workstation and have now tested Rocket League on Fedora Workstation 41 and 42 with GNOME 47 and 48 on Wayland. Both ran buttery smooth on 2560x1440@144Hz. I did not try X11, haven't used it in years. I start Rocket league via steam with the proton-experimental and the input parameters as follows. You can leave out Mangohud, of course. gamemode may also be unnecessary. MANGOHUD=1 gamemoderun %command% The only problem I had with Rocket League at one point (sometime last month) was Rocket League refusing to start. I did not reinstall, just tried switching from proton-9 to proton-experimental and my problems were solved. I probably should uninstall the game and delete leftover files like the wine prefix, then reinstall and test again. If Rocket League is the only game affected, you might see something in the proton log. If you start your game with the following launch parameters, steam writes a proton log file into your home folder. PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
