I just came across this article which for people who are into self hosting can take a look and participate. It's basically a tool that generating never ending web pages with non sense that load slow (but not too slow the AI tools move on) to slow down and thus cost them more to scrape the internet if enough people are doing it. You can also hide it in a way that legit user would never see this on your site: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/01/ai-haters-build-tarpits-to-trap-and-trick-ai-scrapers-that-ignore-robots-txt/ https://zadzmo.org/code/nepenthes/

Yes! His thoughts are very organized and easy to understand. He really gets his points across and helps people understand the need for privacy especially in current time where our information can be scrapped without us noticing. It's just his personal blog post but he structured it better than many people's speeches.

I've been thinking of creating a free class to go along with my (also free) book DISENGAGE: Opting Out—and Finding New Options—to Reclaim Your Life from Spammers, Scammers, Intrusive Marketers and Big Tech...which seems to mesh nicely with what you're doing...except I'm US-based. If you get your nonprofit started, let me know if you might be interested in hosting the class! I planned for weekly readings/assignments, a group chat, and maybe weekly formalized chats or cslls.

I'm a software developer, and I tell people on the daily you need to protect your data. I'm peeling back the tech-oligarchies hold on me by getting rid of Google and the other big boys. I'm fortunate I can spin up SMTP server (MailCow) and cloud storage (NextCloud) using free and open source software (FOSS). But I encourage others to do the same if they can. SMTP is a tough nut to crack, maintaining servers is also a bit of a task. But any technologist that knows web servers (Docker, VM) and DNS can set up shit using elest.io/managed-services

Seems like, to have the exact same thing, you need to is set this up. https://github.com/Grimish-ng/steam-gamescope-guide But idk what my brain really wants. It still feels like the Steam Deck has less issues with ganescope than some people on their hardware. Maybe I also have read that stuttering is solved when using a tty instead of Desktop to put Gamescope on.

Yeah I agree. I'd love to get rid of maps, but location history is just way too valuable to give up, and I couldn't find anybody else who does it. I also really like navigation that's responsive to current traffic levels. Obviously even if someone else provided that, them having fewer users would mean it's not going to be very effective, but I'd be willing to switch to someone else who at least was attempting to do that, even if their userbase wasn't there yet. Right now though...nobody that I could find even tries to do either of those crucial features.

Not to be too pedantic but those aren't alternatives to Android; they're simply custom Android ROMs as alternatives to stock ROMs. GrapheneOS is available for the older pixels. If you can get a Pixel 7 or 8 series phone at a good deal then there's no better Android than GrapheneOS. They take security seriously. I equate GrapheneOS to be the Qubes of the Android world

Clicking the link should not say anything special when you land on the page (which is rather dumb) but once you create your account you should get double the base free storage (20 instead of 10). I don't recall them announcing any change in that policy.

Obsidian stored in Veracrypt. Bonus if you get security keys for veracrypt, either as piv cards or using long passwords only on the key. Standard notes doesn’t require an email. Just make a private username and password. Protonmail and mailbox.org support pgp. Protonmail pgp is quantum resistant. Grab a public key and write emails to a free account. Honestly though, get a fire resistant bag or safe and a notebook. No bit rot. No hacking.

On Nebula, the channel also gets a certain share of the revenue if you watch the video on that platform instead of on YT. Some channels actually publish their videos early on Nbula, while other channels make exclusive videos too. Either way, avoiding YT, and favoring other platforms benefits everyone.

If you recommend Firefox, i think in the context of privacy / data hoarding, i think it is best to recommend Librewolf too.
