This is literally the first I've heard of any of these things and whilst I'm not in North America I follow the political situation pretty closely. I'm not saying your wrong about any of it but who are the people saying this and where are they saying it? Has it been reported on either internally or externally to the US? The overall playbook is fascist I agree but the situation I was trying to compare was Hitler invading a sovereign nation. Trump hasn't done that (yet anyway). I've got good friends in the US and I am very worried about them, I'm just not sure you're betting on the right horse by asking for outside nation-state aid. Rightly or wrongly they'll see that Trump was elected legally and they're never going to invade a country on that basis. There was zero talk of repercussions for Germany until Hitler invaded Poland because he followed the democratic process (or successfully manipulated it) to get elected and assume total power.

I'm also looking into buying some ham radio equipment and speed running that learning curve. I hate to have a tinfoil hat on, but I'm fairly certain something between widespread civil disturbance, civil war, and the collapse of our country are right around the corner, and shit is about to get nasty real quick. The absolute most effective tools we'll have are communications and information.

Thank you. All of these things are actually very well defined. Nazism, Fascism, Authoritarianism. These are not words that are just thrown around haphazardly and have no meaning. The ones who DO use them inappropriately are those whom they describe. It is a concerted effort to redefine or undefine them so there is no longer a word to describe them.

I am hoping the EU and Blue States does a funding program to make open-source and federated projects more user-friendly. There is far too many proprietary ecosystems that will turncoat within years. We need alternatives that are approachable and easy for people to transfer their lives into.

Ideally you'd use an external heat source to melt the snow so you're not wasting your body heat on it. Failing that, I've also heard people recommend filling a water bottle with snow and putting it in between the layers of clothing you're wearing so it's not directly touching your skin.

Keep in mind that in practice this didn't work that well, it wasn't very efficient at displaying modern interfaces over the network. Showing a simple text editor over LAN worked fine, but using Firefox from another place was quite spotty.

I mean... I used to browse r/all on reddit where there was absolutely no dearth of content. Some folks just like being able to scroll through the bigger global stuff too. Lots of people did that on reddit. I don't mean to come across as rude or confrontational, but I do kinda feel you might be assuming things about how people engage with link aggregator sites like reddit or lemmy based on how you like to engage with them. People don't just browse the "all" feed if there's not enough in their subscriptions. Sometimes it's nice to see what people are discussing across the broader social space here If that's flooded with inorganic posts, it changes the experience and takes away someone's ability to do something they wanted to be able to do, and when that happens people generally find it frustrating. Especially if they feel like inorganic content doesn't belong on Lemmy, which isn't exactly an uncommon sentiment. I don't mind inorganic posts personally, but I do think the way you go about it matters. That's just my two cents. Like I said, I'm not trying to be overly argumentative, I apologise if it feels like I'm turning things into a debate. I just felt there's a perspective missing in this discussion and wanted to contribute I hope you can support sports discussion on Lemmy in a way you and other Lemmy users can enjoy. Hope you have a good one
