Hey guys one of the things I miss about reddit is communities like r/Conservative or r/conspiracy, not because I agree with really anything they say there, but because it's a challenge for me.

It's really easy to say "no you're dumb and wrong", but I like going down rabbit holes so I will take the bat shit insane stuff they say and find actual sources to refute them. I know it won't actually change any minds but it's fun for me.

I know theres @[email protected] but that is basically just non-conservatives making fun of conservatives. And I have not been able to find any good conspiracy theory communities on Lemmy at all.

    Any advice?

The problem is that it gets really hard to find non-extreme right people willing to post, at least in the states. I refuse to recognize anyone who voted for Trump as being non-extreme, and given Trump's historic positions, the actual quotable things he said during his campaign, and his subsequent actions, by voting Republican in the last US election they sat down at the table with fascists.

None of the above really; I'd consider those more far-right and not at all interested in. I'm talking about people aligned with ideas like smaller government, government accountability (particularly with respect to spending), the combination of personal responsibility and freedoms, etc.

Conservative politics hasn't meant any of that for a very long time. I think you need to find a new term to use if you want to be able to not have to explain this every time you ask for conservative communities to hang around in.

Also, none of that is necessarily right leaning (anarchy covers very similar ground, but obviously for extremely different reasons), so it doesn't entirely answer the question of what kind of right leaning you are looking for.

I agree: it’s extremely difficult to find what I would call the “middle 80%” since the only people who tend to get all the media attention are the extremes at both ends who are hell bent on maintaining their airtime with ever more insane stunts.

              I don’t understand how people
can vote for someone who did such a piss poor job his first time around, but then again my province elected a drug dealer who ran with literally no election platform whatsoever and won, twice. It boggles the mind. Populism is a cancer.

Lemmy is the tolerance paradox in action.

If you want societaly disenfranchised people to have a voice, you need to silence those who can use their voice to silence them.

You can also use the nazi bar story to explain why there are no conservatives on lemmy. I know not all conservatives are nazis but there you have the bad apples phenomenon to counter. Just a little mysoginism, sexism, racism, is already too much.

The vitriol between Republicans and Democrats in the US has always been there, and I think it started escalating rapidly after Nixon. Even with George Bush Jr in the early 2000s, which had its own set of big problems, it was still "civilized," although people look back at that time and think it was insane (because it was). But the rhetoric has only accelerated even more, and the Trump administrations are the natural end result of this ever-increasing polarization, unfortunately.

I feel like "reasonable" Republican positions died with out after Reagan. Even though most people in this space will never say Regan's positions were reasonable (much less good or defensible), there was still a veneer of civility and respect for what little democratic function America had at the time.

At this point, all of that has been thrown out the window. Even Pence, for how evil of a person he is, still refused to destroy the process, at least.

Go to patriots.win which is where members of "r/the_Donald" went when Reddit shut them down. Or just get xitter account.

We sure as shit don't need any of that shit here.

There's probably some, but keep in mind that your instance has to be federated with them and lemmy.world generally defederates a lot of the more extreme instances (plus a few benign but potentially illegal instances, since the admins don't want legal trouble.)

That said, Lemmy historically is rather extreme "left" (if you can call it that lol) so much so that the .ml of lemmy.ml stands for Marxist-Leninst. That starting point kinda makes the rest of us the conservatives of the community.

If you want to feel challenged, look into who we defederate from. Hexbear, lemmygrad, beehaw, etc. I'm sure those rabbit holes will be new to you, although heaven help you lol

You can definitely call Marxism and Anarchism Left. Leftism starts at anti-Capitalism, and both Marxism and Anarchism make up the largest and most significant umbrellas of Leftism.

I'd like to believe it was deleted as a bit, and not just because whoever read it felt it intensely, lol. (Also, déjà vu! I feel compelled by whatever is left of my superstition to call them out as they happen.)

Calling anyone who doesn’t immediately agree with you a nazi doesn’t make it so. That’s just a weak excuse for not having to think critically, which is the very definition of an echo chamber. A left-leaning Canadian is a “left leaning nazi”? Are you calling all Canadians nazis? Did it make you feel brave to do that? Did your internet friends congratulate you on standing up to someone who doesn’t think just like you do? Give your fucking head a shake and go touch grass. What a joke.

The internet is what you make it to be. I use it for information exchange; it appears you use it to feel safe, safe enough to make ridiculous accusations and pithy remarks to people you not only know nothing about, but don’t care to.

This is exactly how I feel. it’s like somewhere after 2000 people just gave up being civil, not just in politics although it feels like that’s where it’s become not just acceptable but almost required to demonize your opponent.

I’m not quite old enough to really have first hand experience or interest in politics before 1995 or so, but a lot of people seem to mark the time around Reagan as an inflection point.

                                      Any advice?

Lemmy.world leans right overall, so I'd say you're already there. If you want far-right, there are very few areas on Lemmy, so you'd be better off peering into Reddit for that.

There are probably plenty of right wing instances you're not federated with, but now that mainstream social media has been overtlu taken over by fascists there's not as much reason for it. When I first heard of Lemmy I remember there were a shit ton of far fight instances because that's who was getting kicked off of reddit back then. Now, though, the owner of Twitter is straight up doing seig heils in front of crowds and you can get banned on reddit if you criticize him too much. So if you're a conservative, why would you bother using a weird open source platform like Lemmy when the big dogs are all in complete agreement with your beliefs and all your heroes are on those platforms, especially when your ideology is based on hero worship?

TL;DR if you're a right winger you're just on the mainstream platforms or on an explicitly right wing alternative like Truth Social

Plenty of conspiracy theorists on Lemmy just mention that Luigi Mangione killed Brian Thompson or Trump falling out with Elon Musk and they come out of the woodwork
