That's true. (Although most European countries do not use screw caps for beer bottles)

The are other ways of sealing a bottle, for example using a cork. In a pinch pressing the metal cap back on usually works decently, as long as it's not too deformed.

Diesel makes it burn harder and longer. But using diesel directly is less stable because it requires more heat to ignite.
Styrofoam makes it sticky.
