I suspect most people aren't subbing/following communities on Lemmy. So post the community or topic you want to see pop off. And reader(that's you) if you are interested in that community click the link and follow it.

      👏Let's 👏 start 👏 coordinating 👏 people.

I'm a fan of these kinds of games, especially Smash Melee. Since leaving Reddit and Twitter, I feel pretty disconnected from them.

I'm trying to learn Japanese as a hobby, and it's slightly unfortunate that there's not much of a community for it here. I think the first two kinda split the userbase by having slightly different focus, preventing a definitive one spot. The third one is decently active though, mostly thanks to just a handful of people. The effort makes a big difference.

One of the most well-intentioned and reasonable spaces to discuss this type of stuff I've found, but posts are not frequent.

And I wanted to add, in general, I think communities here often work better at higher levels. Like in the examples from my post, smashbros is better than just the ssbm community. fgc, more realistic than communities for individual fighting games. Languagelearning > individual language communities, to an extent.

Since the Lemmy user base is small, I think zooming out is helpful. This place isn't Reddit and it doesn't work to try and replicate it 1-to1.

I went there hoping to discuss korean web novels and they don't allow it.

              No idea why

Because they are by definition different things. Close in style, sure, but so are YA novels.

Coming as a reddit refugee I just replicated their definition when creating the community. And I still feel the same way since it's not a general "novel" community. If there's a popular demand I'll loose the restrictions.

I think we need to get away from the short format brain rot media that is so popular today, like TikTok and Twitter/X. And light novels are familiar and approachable. Often, people have already seen the anime or seen the manga.

For that matter, even [email protected] could use more activity, and manga is even more approachable than light novels.

I recently started reading a lot of the LNs that are on "catch up" at a website called j-novel club, and it's gotten me to enjoy reading novels more.

Also, the Ascendance of a Bookworm light novel is one of my favorite things I've ever read. It's a pretty long one at 33 volumes, though.

                      Nascar. I rarely see posts.

I also would like to see less bots reposting reddit. Like the Formula 1 and PC Master Race ones are just reddit posts.

Keep it up. I don't much care about off-season news or anything, but I'll probably join the discussion when it comes to highlights and game threads. These upcoming seasons for each sport will play a big part in how active the community will be going forward I think. Unfortunately a bunch of traffic was dominated by the presidential election last year so other niche topics should gain more traction this year.

And she is noticeably not snobby about books. Myne would love to read light novels.

One problem that got me away from novels for a while was that I'd get ambitious and try to read something that was recommended but really wasn't for me.

Considering that Lemmy is still growing I'd hope there would be a place to discuss all light novels in one place.

About a year ago maybe I made a post and it was taken down due to not being a japanese web novel.

Regardless of style "web novel" and "light novel" aren't specific to a source country like manga and manwha are. So as a community restricting [email protected] to just japanese ones didn't make sense. You could've done jnovels instead.

You're doing it based off of writing style. You can make that call as a moderator but I just let it go and don't discuss my reading with anyone still after leaving reddit.

One day maybe enough people break the rule in a month to open it up.

So kind of no point on having india community on a instance that doesn't allow account from Indian IP address

Regardless of style “web novel” and “light novel” aren’t specific to a source country like manga and manwha are.

Both Wikipedia and Wiktionary define them as Japanese. The same goes for the original Reddit community or the database the bot (Myne) gets her info from. I did not take down your comment (it's still up) but pointed out that it's the wrong community for that reason. I didn't do it on a whim.

I'm not categorically against Korean (or Chinese) novels, but they're by every definition I know simply not "light novels". I believe that a general book community would be a better place to discuss other translated works. For reference, the place on Reddit to post Korean Webnovels would be r/noveltranslations instead of r/lightnovels.

I would recommend to go with series that you liked the anime of and want to know how the story continues. It's not a 100% surefire way to find something you like, but at least you remove other people's taste from the equation.

Thank you for the clarification. I've always just searched TITLE light novel and it just comes right up when looking for the source of a graphic novel.
If I had the bandwidth I would start up novel translations myself, but alas my life is too busy to moderate and maintain it.
Thank you for your own efforts as a moderator and taking the time to clarify.

                                        Edit:
I'm not good at using Lemmy search, but I figured out how to find my post here: Link
I found a discord server that was dedicated to the series I was talking about, but left it since I don't like my discord cluttered.
I read like 20 different stories across Korean and Japanese authors. The bulk keeps me distracted enough to not have spare time to chat. Although I miss having people to converse with.

I suspect most people aren't subbing/following communities on Lemmy. So post the community or topic you want to see pop off. And reader(that's you) if you are interested in that community click the link and follow it.

                                          👏Let's 👏 start 👏 coordinating 👏 people.

We need more activity over there. I hope to make a post or two soon, but it's sad only seeing a couple new posts before seeing things from months ago. C'mon 3D artists!!! Where ya at?
