Guitar for 25 years with some bass and drums in there too, play in one band atm but always on the lookout for new stuff. I should play more.

It's a shame the music communities here aren't as vibrant as reddit but far less people over here. I live in hope that it'll get busier!

Sub to communities you wanna see pop off and that's how they get more active.

Guy plays guitar and uke. Teaches kids music, gigged every day. Doesn't consider himself a musician. I think you're a more active musician than most professionals lol.

I appreciate the thought, but I've been around actual musicians, and I'm not that.

I have only the most rudimentary knowledge of music theory, have only ever written one song, which was terrible, and didn't actually end up teaching my kids ukulele.

These days I just fiddle about with my ukes on my couch. If I ever get over my inertia, I've been thinking of putting up some youtube clips of my covers, but don't hold your breath.

Your video is an interesting concept. I do wonder though about switching genres each album. I get why, but as a consumer you'd have to let them know what to expect. That it's all about exploration. Because let's say your 2nd album pops off and goes viral for its hiphop. If you make your next album classical choir acapellas, you are essentially alienating your audience. Unless they know you pulling some weird shit from the beginning like 'I love robots' on netflix. You know what I mean? Feel like you'd lose momentum across time unless your audience expressly follows you because they want to see you explore in every direction.

But who am I to say anything, Im just a dude replying on the internet

I already have it all planned out. I know which album will lead into which and have ways I will play off it. I do switch as drastically as rock to Hip Hop but none of them are niche genres like choir lol.

I'm essentially creating love letters to all these different genres that have influenced me, and they're all genres with bigger fanbases. I'm trying to tie them together through lyrical content.

That's too bad. I would love more synth stuff here.

Yeah that counts. Have you found a boopbox community on reddit?

No, I didn't make any music when I used Reddit, and I didn't even know about Beepbox, so I wasn't exactly searching for one. Haven't found a community about it on Lemmy yet

              Man, I wish.

I can't sing. I can't play any instrument. I have no sense of timing (I can't always even clap along in time). If I ever do end up being part of a band it's going to be as their manager since I'm now too old to be a roadie. But I wish I could, I dunno, play guitar enough to jam or be a part of an totally average local band.

If you can't play music but want to play WITH music, I'd recommend getting a groovebox like the Novation Circuit (original or Circuit Tracks). It gives you 2 synthesizers and 4 drum parts in one small, battery-powered box, with a sensible note/pattern sequencer. It's limited, but there are a lot of resources online for using it, and it's cheap if you buy used. Great fun to sit on the couch and make tunes.

There are also groovebox apps for iOS (like Grooverider GR-16) that do the same and sound great for less money.

What I'm saying is: music creation is more accessible than ever these days, so never tell yourself you can't do it.

I love acoustic and classical guitar. Never could make electric work for me. Maybe had I learned jazz things would be different. Just too hippie

If you're just playing clean guitar through a clean amp, it's probably going to be boring for the most part.

Crank the gain up on the amp and/or get a few choice pedals, and you can make it sound like anything you want.

I like fucking around with delays and reverbs sometimes, and just make crazy ambient soundscapes.

I'm slowly moving to linux. Haven't checked if addictive drums works there yet. I don't know if you just assumed they sound plastic but it actually slaps I think. No one has ever told me my drums sound like shit.

Cant speak to that specific software, but Linux has tons of FOSS music software. There are several right on Flat Hub even.

You probably don't want to know about this then: https://www.ehx.com/products/tri-parallel-mixer/

Three parallel effects chains... Absolute overkill.

I've used lots of drum VSTs in my experience they take a lot of tweaking to sound right but it might be the tism making me feel that way, also I didn't mean to say they sounded like shit, just not organic.

Music discussion is very lacking here for. Compared to reddit. And yeah I know, 'just post then'. But when I search for music communities here they're empty. And it makes sense because no-one is posting. So kind of a catch 22.

now i dont exactly know how all this lemmy stuff works but... to all you musos out there, can you join me and search for music under communities (I'm using summit app) and just at a minimum subscribe to all the ones that you would be interested in(if they were popping off)?

At least that way when one of us posts, the rest of us will actually see it (I suspect).

Anyway. Keep making the world more fun for everyone else.

P.s if your not a musician, but you like golf or something, subscribe to the golf communities even if they're empty.

I play a bunch of instruments at least good enough to jam around a campfire. I also am in the middle of designing and building an analog drone based instrument with multiple oscillator types, a swimming pool of onboard effects, filters and other doodads.

I found a synth diy community the other day that I plan to start posting to soon.

I would happily contribute to this, lmk if we decide on a specific community to all join in on, I think it would be cool if it was musician's interests in general. Like I'm an audio engineer as well as a guitarist so it would fun to have a space to have deep conversations about both, as well as other musical niches people have an interest in.

That's the thing though. Sub to specific and sub to general, it only takes a few seconds and it's free. So no real downside

It no longer exists as the instance that was hosting the community has shut down. It now only exists in archive form on instances that federated with it prior to shutting down like the one you linked. No new posts or comments can be made however. (technically you can but it won't federate out for anyone to see).

No, its not punk. I'd call it more like Sad Bastard Music. https://bentnotbrokenmusic.bandcamp.com/album/homemade
I also have a bunch of random stuff, early versions of songs from the EP, and covers, on soundcloud. https://soundcloud.com/bent-not-broken/tracks
