I used to sell books in a college town and one day, this guy came in looking a little... off. He was attempting to dress up, but his suit was maybe 20 years out of date.

He looked and sounded like a burnout case, what my friends and I affectionately called "crispy around the edges", he was a little bit fried. But he was making an attempt, you know?

"Hey man, do you have any resume books?"

"Sure, they're right over here."

"Do you have one that can tell me how to cover a gap in my resume?"

"Well, sure, but it depends on how big of a gap and what you were doing."

"I TOOK TEN YEARS OFF TO FOLLOW THE DEAD!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"

"You know, in a lot of other towns, that could count against you, but here? You could list that and have a hiring manager go "DUUUUUDE! I WAS THERE TOO! SANTA MONICA BABY!!!"
