Reddit’s 50% Plunge Fails to Entice Dip Buyers as Growth Slows.

Same. I'm not sure Lemmy is any better tho. I know, I'm a hypocrite.
Right now it is ok. But I worry that AI will enshittify even the Feddiverse.
-
Digg is excited about "AI" moderation. So, they're gonna be going the route of banning users for wrongthink just as Reddit did. I don't think it's going to be that popular.
Normally platforms are around for a while before enshittification kicks in, I see that Digg are cutting straight to the chase before the site even launches.
I probably will check the new Digg out, but I’ve come to the conclusion that all corporate-run social media platforms will go down the road of fucking over their users eventually. I’m not willing to move to another one and build up connections and communities just for some rich fuck to destroy it on a whim. I’m far more interested in helping to build and grow federated platforms like Lemmy so that there is a true alternative outside of their sphere of influence entirely.

The gloomy sentiment around Reddit Inc. has failed to dissipate after its shares fell 50% from a February high, with volatile technology stocks under pressure.
Probably they tried to own the libs. Lol
-
What do you mean my that? Like, your own posts or those of others?
Not sure I'm seeing that on my side. Could be wrong tho
It depends on the version of Lemmy that your instance is running. My account is on sh.itjust.works which upgraded Lemmy versions a few months ago. Apparently it changed a parameter name that keeps track if a post has been read or not.
So on Sync, you can click on posts, but they never show as read. It's super annoying, so I went back to Voyager.
-
Sync for me, but same. Plus I didn't like their attitude.
Complete with intermittent abandonment, just like the old days.
-
-
Removing the messages option and instead replacing it with their stupid DM chat system, even for modmail
-
Stating that later this year they're going to introduce walled off paid sub-reddit
-
That live stream nonsense they had a couple of years back
-
Their A.I. answers integration
-
Censoring users who mention 'eat the rich' and the name Luigi
-
No longer allowing moderators of their own sub-reddit to change a sub's status to NSFW (after the protests, obv), now requires admin to do this for them if the deem it appropriate
...who'd have guessed that these decisions were shit. Not the community who told them each time, again and again, right?
Fuck you, Reddit
Surprised r/Nintendo isn't just straight up nuked.

They’ve banned all of the good people that made up the site. I used to do Secret Santa. For 10 years! And I had mothers thank me for making their kids holidays. And they banned me. Because I made a death joke about how old McConnell was. Dude looks like death walking. Prove me wrong.
I was a good user. Dark humor isn’t hurting anyone. Reddit will die. Just like every other popular site.
-
It's always been ridiculous to me that what is essentially a forum has shareholders. That's why I left Reddit during the app debacle and haven't looked back.
Reddit had shareholders before their IPO, they just went public shareholders.

I left with my 14 year old account after they banned third party apps. Moderating large communities (1M+) with the official app was impossible, and I was moderating 3 of those, plus a bunch of smaller ones. I did Secret Santa 4 or 5 times (move countries frequently for my job, so it wasn't always feasible), and still have the Guinness World records certificate somewhere, plus a lot of free merch from the mod appreciation giveaways back when they weren't a shitcorp. Leaves quite the bad aftertaste.
Pretty sure that by now I'd have been banned as well, I never held back with dark humor and speaking out against evil corpos. In a way I'm glad I left on my own terms before it all went fully to hell.

I used to mod a million plus sub. How on earth could you do it without 3rd party tools? I am very happy here. It’s nice to be able to talk to real people again.
-
Once a company becomes publicly traded it always gets worse. Once the shareholders are closer to the executive compensation packages than the customers/users it is all downhill. It is like clockwork.
Might take a year, might take 10, but the result is inevitable.
The same thing will happen to Apple and Costco eventually.

I was sign up number 3. I emailed Spez his own source code because he had the error reporting on his Web Server set to "VERBOSE".
I was permanently banned for an answer in an AskReddit thread that amounted to "what is true in your line of work that you can't say". My answer was that non-males are insanely violent and one of the huge lies that is held in the public consciousness is that "men are the violent ones" when the reality is all people are violent, and there's a tremendous amount of IPV especially in same-sex partnerships. Banned for "advocating violence".

Sounds about right. The fact Reddit is killing off its best users is just a sign that Lemmy can bring us all back together.
-
Hey fam, I’m another Reddit refugee. I heard Lemmy is what Reddit was back in the day. Sad to see Reddit go to hell.
If it makes you feel any better, Reddit is and always has been shit. From their "fake it till you make it" days to the "narwhals and bacon" and then the RealFeelz(TM) community make-believe. It's the people that made it what it was, the platform has always been a steaming loaf of shit.
-

Not to be cynical, but the same human sludge on Reddit is now here. There's a major problem with the collective consciousness that a new platform won't solve.

They banned everyone except castrated Zionist establishment democrats, Nazis and Russian bots.

I’ve bumped into some of them. But I’d say there isn’t a bot infestation of fake users. Yet.

This is basically it. It is just harder to run a fascist oligarchy these days. People are way too connected and are sympathetic to other people from other countries. The propaganda can only go so far.
Please stop smoking the drapes. We are in the rise of massive fascism worldwide - I literally don't understand how you could make such a statement.
-
All I use reddit for is porn now, so the ads are really easy to spot. Like if I see someone trying to show me tupperware when I was just looking at goth girls and femboys, I know to keep scrolling.
Put in a p in any URL to get a slideshow carousel. Great for self-flagellation. Redditp...

A slideshow would be great when my hands are full of toys
