Reddit’s 50% Plunge Fails to Entice Dip Buyers as Growth Slows.

The gloomy sentiment around Reddit Inc. has failed to dissipate after its shares fell 50% from a February high, with volatile technology stocks under pressure.
Music to my ears.

Lemmy, Mbin, and now PieFed!
I didn't want to put piefed yet since it's still developing, but pretty fast and hard to give them credit. Is one I most looking forward to because of their topics and feeds. I thought I'd appreciate mbin having built in sorry for microblogs, but I didn't even explore much of it

They’ve banned all of the good people that made up the site. I used to do Secret Santa. For 10 years! And I had mothers thank me for making their kids holidays. And they banned me. Because I made a death joke about how old McConnell was. Dude looks like death walking. Prove me wrong.
I was a good user. Dark humor isn’t hurting anyone. Reddit will die. Just like every other popular site.
I was a 12 year member with nearly a million karma. I was permabannef right after the inauguration, for repeating an anti-HitlerPig opinion I'd repeating numerous times before he was elected.
I came to Lemmy and found out I wasnt alone, i was part of a bloodbath. I've seen posts from many people with 10+ year accounts who were banned. We're the people who built that site, and made it what it was. Somehow we managed to be active for over a decade without a problem, but suddenly we all became violators in the same month, and need to be banned.
Now we find out Spaz wants to buy TikTok, AND The MuskRat threatened him. No doubt the threat was that if he had a prayer of being awarded the privilege of buying TikTok, he was going to have to obey, and violate Reddit's foundational free speech mission. The classic Reddit is dead.

cant be all those ban waves can it? feb 12-13th was the start of a massive account purging from the site,a nd you wonder why the engagment fell, leaving russian troll farms mostly intact, plus MUSK constant brigading on the site.

They all cashed out after the IPO. They're probably laughing at the bag holders right now.
i remember spez and his c-suites dumped the stock a while ago.

Elizabeth Holmes comes to mind. She manoeuvred herself into a position of wealth and power by defrauding other rich people and got herself 11 years in prison for it. That's 11 years more than most other rich scumbags get.
and not the patients live she ruined, even caused harm to.
-
The most bizarre part of the Theranos scandal is that any medical lab tech/scientist could have told you, right from the initial pitch, the entire thing was a massive scam. There was literally no reason to ever think this technology was feasible and a mountain of reasons it wasn’t.
her pitch was single droplet of blood to diagnosis diseases.
-
Elizabeth Holmes only got in trouble for lying to people who should've done their "due diligence"
The patients / families of the patients that Theranos lied to and mislead never got justice.
i read an article when the theranos sht has been going down, around 2016, look how long it took to charge her. a patient hormone level was higher than normal indicating some form of malignancy, she took chemo only to find out she dint have any.

Except he didn't live long enough to rat anyone out. That's the only downside to that story.
ghislaine is still alive, she isnt talking though.

This would actually be a great outcome.
While most people would likely move to Digg v2.0 (I am just being realistic), this will help fuel growth in the threadiverse. And at any rate, the major instances would simply not be able to handle 1 million MAUs immediately moving to Lemmy.
and it will invite all the trolls, racists and right wingers with it.
-
I will speculate this is going to happen anyway, sooner or later.
While I am not American, I have lived in the the US and have many close friends there. From my understanding, American oligarchs have gone full in on a proto-fascist state (US is not yet fascist in the formal definition of the term, thing can and likely will get worse). This includes Hoffman and not only.
they saw trump as thier last grift, before things change. i mentioned on reddit subs, that the gops last grasp for power was trump, and they will do whatever it takes to maintain it for another 5-10years, before people get sick of them.
-

Yes it is. We are already at the dictatorial stage in practice with the legislature and SCOTUS complying voluntarily by not enacting checks and balances. Everything else, like the nationalism, demonizing groups, and the rest are in full swing. Don't need death camps to be fascist, although we are well on our way down that road.
What criteria isn't being met yet in your opinion?
because they are also taking orders from russia, Europes closest to russia side is HUNGARY in the EU.
-
Please stop smoking the drapes. We are in the rise of massive fascism worldwide - I literally don't understand how you could make such a statement.
I understand we are sliding in that direction. My point is, once there, its harder to keep that regime alive.
How many people are okay with what Israel is doing? Or Russia? Or (now) the US? Despite the propaganda and censoring all over the internet, not many. Most people aren't buying it.

I mean. Elon Musk is exerting control of the platform too. Do you really want THAT shit in your cereal?
-
There are a few minor cultural differences to be aware of. But as long as you avoid saying anything negative about Star Trek or Linux, you should be just fine.
Yea, and can't be criticizing Nutrek

He didn't need musk threatening him. He was already killing Reddit with his whole "we want to float it on the stock market so we'd better get rid of all of the good content" fixation.
And frankly he was a shit stain even before that, remember how hard it was to get them to ban CP subs?

I got in trouble for “report abuse” as I reported every post for sexualizing minors in a sub dedicated to a certain musician/OnlyFans model “in their prime” aka before they were 18.
Same here report abuse for misinformation of political comments, I heard the CSam was going down in the barely moderated medical subs,
-
Not to be cynical, but the same human sludge on Reddit is now here. There's a major problem with the collective consciousness that a new platform won't solve.
Reddit didn't die because of them though. He died because they got rid of everyone else.

They 7-day banned me for 'encouraging violence' for saying I didn't think Mangione deserved to go to jail for what he did. I appealed it and it was lifted, but not before it was upgraded to a permanent ban for ban-evasion on other accounts (I've never had more than one account in my 14 years of reddit.) The perma-ban was lifted on appeal too, but by that point I was just like fuuuuck off.
I heard they did that a bunch of other users too, temp ban, resulted in perma ban of other accounts as soon as the temp ban was lifted.

Reddit has a feature where there helpfully link your account to stranger's accounts. When the stranger is banned from any sub, you are too. But you don't know you are banned from those subs. So when you innocently post, you get perma-banned.
Interesting, their filters must be automatically assume a horde of bots are connected
