There's a clear up tick on daily users growing and we've crossed the 50k line as of yesterday! LETSSS GOOO!
-
I signed up for hexbear out of morbid curiosity, that place feels like an insane asylum.
I was banned there as well, although maybe the ban is gone with the domain drama. It's their instance, they should run it how they want.
-
Same here: Deleted my 13y Reddit account along with every other US tech account except Google, as I need that for my livelihood.
Censorship wasn't the motivation. Rather; I'm withdrawing my support for the US economy in any way possible, given the shocking geopolitical events of this year and the way they are treating Ukraine.
Besides, the Federverse feels like going back to the internet's roots and I'm here for it!

I thought the whole point of Lemmy was that it didn't matter what instance you joined. Can I move my account, or do I need to make a new one on a new instance?
You have to make a new one.
I've been on .ml for half a year and it's a good one. Not many defederations, so I can pick what instances i want to see and not have some faceless admin pick for me.
If you really struggle with certain users who are passionate about certain topics, just block them. This is true for any instance. Don't forget to block me to. Thanks.
-
I had to switch instances 3 times before I found one I was okay with.
That's about how it went for me. This is pretty much my home instance, but I also keep an account on a more local lemmy for chatting with the townies.
Also experimenting with my own instance. Still workin out the kinks.

If you are here and want lemmy to succeed, please consider donating. The devs used to get by mostly on nlnet foundation grants but are trying to shift to a more sustainable donation based model. You can see how they are doing on the join-lemmy website when you scroll down to the bottom, there are also links to their liberapay (preferred option) paetreon, etc.
-
I donated monthly for almost 2 years, and they never even added me on the donator page. Petty reason, but at this point I don't even know how much they care.
-
people peer pressuring over instances can be disregarded, they're almost always shit-stirring
Feudposting is cringe

Welcome! It's a great, homely place that still feels a little bit like the old internet.
In addition to the already mentioned Lemmyverse, two other great ways of finding active communities are [email protected] and [email protected]
still feels a little bit like the old internet.
Yes! I miss it.

Give us good yuri manga recommendation
I think this one was my favorite so far: https://mangadex.org/title/d5648ff0-6792-4c87-b9d3-b024ac7abbab/kyaba-jou-dakedo-jd-ni-otosaremashita
I found it both funny and cute.

You can use this script with a browser addon like Tampermonkey to get around the sign-in requirement:
// ==UserScript== // @name reddit - unblock (create cookie and reload) // @namespace Violentmonkey Scripts // @match *://*.reddit.com/* // @grant none // @version 2024-01-08 // @noframes // @license MIT License // @description for "Blocked" "whoa there, pardner!" cowboy bs // ==/UserScript== /* thanks: https://www.reddit.com/r/mullvadvpn/comments/18jbxb2 */ if (document.title === "Blocked") { document.cookie="reddit_session=;Domain=.reddit.com;Path=/;Expires=;Secure=true;SameSite=None"; window.location.reload(); }
Why should the user have to fix reddit to make it functional?

using "jokes" to push conservatism is a common tactic of crypto-fascists as is warmongering shitposts like noncredibledefense or spreading 4chan greentexts, both of which are the top communities on SJW (intentionally chosen by the way) which combined with the transphobic admins creates a alt-right vibe on sh.itjust.works
After a quick look through it, so far it looks mostly like jokes dunking on conservatives. Not the "jokes" crypto fascists are all about, aka saying something horrific and then saying jk jk afterwards.
-
I think they're referring to the fact that you no longer can create accounts without using an email address. You were able to use a UI loophole to do it before via Old Reddit, but no more.
Woah, it's finally gone? Guess I haven't been back in a while
-
I am quite far from being a conservative and I am well aware of what happened to r/TheDonald and I am trying to walk that fine line, I plan to lock the comm entirely if I feel like it's shifting away from true satire.
Despite what Tankies think about me, I'm actually pretty far left, I would even love to see the fall of capitalism in my lifetime. Where we differ is the fact that I don't consider swapping out capitalism with just another form of authoritarianism is the path forward whatsoever
That being said, I've seen your type of opinion before, and I simply don't agree, a lot of people need a varying range of humor to deal with harsh realities, like with the fact that MaGA and other global alt-right movements appears to be "winning"
Take a look through my comment history and it'll be abundantly clear, to be ever more clear, Fuck Trump, Fuck Putin, Fuck Muskrat, Fuck AfD, and fuck any other Right-wing leader/political party around the world
and fuck any other Right-wing leader/political party around the world
don't forget, fuck the Democrats and Joe Biden

At a certain point it becomes harassment and should be moderated accordingly. Something that we're going to need to do as we grow in order to be a functional social spaces that harassment needs to be something you get banned for because a lot of the negative experience people have on the corporate crap is because of widespread normalized harassment. If an instance isn't so bad it gets defederated users probably shouldn't be given shit for merely using it
The .world admins allow this to continue, which I see as tacit endorsement for it.

Exactly right... cm0002. If you don't like a instance, block it with the tools given to you. Why haven't you blocked .ml if you feel so strongly about this?
Solidarity amongst the instances! We will not be divided against each other!
For 2 months I was instance-banned and it was wonderful, but then your wonderful davel just couldn't let that stand and then un-instance-banned me and re-banned me from individual comms instead for the sole purpose of allowing .ml users to brigade me
Anyways, there's plenty of documentation of .ml's Tankie behavior on lemmy.world/c/[email protected] I don't warn people about that Tankie problem for no reason

What constitutes an active user? Is a new lurker like myself counted or is there a threshold of minimum action needed to be counted?
Upvotes or comments count.
-
Yep, that also works. Is CSAM blocked by sdf? I presume not if the blocklist is literally empty, but I'm not sure if that counts.
Blocklist is literally empty.
They federate with everyone, including the insufferable right wingers, the insufferable tankies, and the people who draw loli (I think there's only one lemmy instance still active that allows loli and it's the radqueer one, and it's tiny enough you don't notice it unless you go looking for it). Most of the insufferable right wingers have also closed their respective instances.
If their mastodon instance is any comparison, it still federate with everyone including the instances that post loli. I suspect if an instance were posting stuff illegal in the US that would be grounds for SDF to defederate for legal reasons, but 1A protections are broader than speech protections in most of the rest of the world.
You can always block the community or even the entire instance of anyone you don't want to see.
