How many of you use Lemmy and ONLY use Lemmy vs Reddit?
-
Im "hardcore" as you describe it, dont care about instagram facebook twatter and all that shit. Lemmy is the one little corner i inhabit and i am fine with that. Also i did have a reddit account and, recently decided to log in again for shits and giggles and most of the subs i frequented have been decimated, and are shells of their former selves. I think i made the right choice getting the hell out of there.
Yep Lemmy, YouTube, and discord only for me

Is anyone here so hardcore that they don't even bother with mainstream social media? If its not on Lemmy or Mastodon it must not be important? Anyone that hardcore?
If it's not in the fediverse, I'm not using it
Even youtube which I used to use in addition to the fediverse is now completely replaced by peertube -
I don't know how people can live without niche subs that simply don't exist on lemmy. I read them but I can't participate since reddit fingerprints me no matter what I do and instantly bans my new accounts.
Currently waiting for it to happen to me.... Their new rules got banned twice now for three days and then seven days.
Didn't even say anything out of the ordinary. What finally got you banned?

Same, used a workaround for a while but then got tired of it and my favorite client got a lemmy version. Smaller places are more fun.

the only social media I have is Lemmy and mastodon. I prefer Lemmy to mastodon. (I also have kbin)
I quit Facebook, Reddit, Twitter etc. because of content manipulation. They suppress posts against their agenda and promote those for their agenda. I always knew this, but when I realized I was being influenced, I deleted my accounts and quit.
Only things I'll use now are open source, decentralized, and non profit owned. (I'll gladly donate)

This is the only "social media" I use, alsthough its really more like a message board than modern social media.

How has Lemmy been for you? How do you resist the call of Reddit on a Dark and stormy night?
I honestly don't consider the sea of noise over there "social" media. So I never even think to go over to it. Like others, if an answer to a question happens to be on Reddit, I'll read that while signed out.

wrote last edited by [email protected]I wouldn't call it hardcore necessarily. I'm on lemmy because I walked away from reddit when they shut down api access to third party apps. I haven't had any other social media since I got rid of facebook in 2013 when Edward Snowden dropped his info. I just don't want it, to be honest. Facebook was a little hard to give up because it was the only way I stayed in touch with some folks, but honestly the important relationships survived. And all the rest - instagram, tiktok, twitter, snapchat, et al - don't really appeal to me. Especially short-form content, which I find extra annoying.

I personally don't use anything other than Lemmy and Whatsapp.
I use reddit but only through google search where is type reddit at the end of the search query.
Occasionally i use Instagram for local news and updates on my friends/relatives.

Lemmy is the only social media i have.
And i guess discord but that's just for my weekly d&d group and nothing else

It's not normal here? I'm only Lemmy+mastodon (with a bsky bridge)

wrote last edited by [email protected]Lemmy is the only platform I participate on. I do occasionally check some niche subs on Reddit for hobbies and games I follow for news/suggestions/ideas/etc., but no idle browsing and no contributing, not even through votes.
I also sometimes pop onto Reddit just to manually edit and delete more of my comment history, because the automated tools are apparently only capable of seeing the past year. Once I finally get through everything, I can delete my account, but it's a slow process with years worth of content to remove going back to 2010.

Add me to the “hardcore” list. There’s just no need for that evil crap. I’m fine just on Lemmy, it keeps the consumption under control.

I peek into Reddit when I have a specific need. They have some good miscellaneous information posts. Otherwise, I'm here.

If anything I'm surprised by the constant Reddit comparisons, because this has never felt like Reddit to me.
It feels like a 90s forum. Small, focused on a handful of topics, you always argue with the same five guys about the same five things... It's not a Reddit replacement at all. Which is why I'm here, I don't contribute to Reddit and never have.
wrote last edited by [email protected]Admittedly I can't see why it's that surprising, the format is almost a carbon copy of Reddit.
When I think of old forums, I think of the chronological-only format with no voting. There is a top post in a thread, and all replies that follow are a single chain of chronological posts. No nested threads of parent/child comments that help keep conversations more organized, and no upvoting/downvoting which affect the sort criteria.
Not to mention older forums are usually directly admin-managed throughout, as in not just anyone is able to start a subforum/community on their own for a given interest within a site that they then moderate and can appoint their own co-moderators for. There's a site admin or admins, and maybe a group of admin-appointed moderators who help manage the entire thing.

Discord, YouTube and Twitch. Even if I don't count 1 because I don't really build any online presence, all 3 together probably count as having mainstream social media no matter how strict the definition.

Reddit stopped being mainstream for me since the API bullshit, so... hardcore I am, guess I
