No no they're not that stupid

It would be disabled at the dealership. When you go to select your options you can opt for the monthly or yearly ad-free plan. Or if you really want a good value you can get the lifetime* ad-free plan for just $3000.

If you don't go for those only then will the ads be enabled - but don't worry you can always download the app and start your subscription. (But it will be more expensive than it would've been if you signed up when you bought it. Why not just do it from the start?)

I have an older car with no backup camera, but I frequently drive my parents' cars which both have backup cameras. Often, when I'm driving my own car, I find myself backing up while staring uselessly at my center console. Haven't heard any screams or crunching noises so far, fingers crossed.

I'd rather bike because the repairs are easier, cheaper, and I don't have to pay for gas and insurance

I bought a used 25 yo hybrid off of Craigslist last November for $50 and I've put 2000 miles on it since then. I just can't believe people spend $10K to $15K on bikes these days, but it's fun to pass those things.

Yeah. 10 or 15k is wild to me. Got my bike for $210 used and it's served me for 7 ish years now. Winter biking has done a number to it though.

Ngl even 50 minutes by car is an insane commute to me. My commute is 30-40 by bike.

idk why people need cameras and sensors that beep when something's close, for me the thump and/or scream is enough

In the U.S., ODB-I was mandated beginning in model year 1988, and ODB-II was mandated for all cars beginning in model year 1996. Technically, California mandated it, but the manufacturers all made their entire U.S. models comply with California rules for easier logistics.

ODB-I had terrible standardization and requires a bunch of model/make specific stuff to properly interface with, but in theory the 35-year old cars do have some kind of data port available.

Oops, most of my cars are 1985. more like 40 years old now. I do have a 1989 Ford Ranger but it has some special proprietary data port and when I bought the special reader it wouldn't read. I have to use BRAIN POWER to keep it running.

I love the cars which only have the must have versions of modern tech. You usually get them in like budget oriented cars from a few years back. Has a parking radar but it only beeps and doesnt have cameras. Has the anti tailgate brake thingy without a bunch of other gizmos. Pretty sure you can also retrofit cars with these if youre into some diy, they actually help you with driving/parking without distracting you.

I'd rather spend a week fixing my car than spend a week earning enough money to pay the dealer to work on my car.

I mean sure, but there's reasons the owner's manual and service manual are two different pdfs.

Some processes require more knowledge than can easily be described on a page or require specialized tools.
