From the wiki, and I'm simplifying:
VW was handed over to the German government after being offered free-of-charge to Ford in 1948 by the British government (who ran the factory up till then).
In 1946 the produced 1000 cars per month.
In 1949, 2 cars were sold in the US.
In 1952, 12 VWs were sold in Canada.
In 1955 they produced over 1 million Beetles.

So 3 years on life support being ran by the British. Dunno how long being run by the German government before becoming GmbH.

And at these times, they could claim "Nazism is dead". The issue with Musk and Tesla is nazis are not going anywhere anytime soon. Maybe they should hire VW's CEO, actually. He managed to get the brand past the diesel-gate.

      🤣 🤣

a blow to investors who had hoped anger toward Elon Musk would have faded by now

Methinks they may have underestimated Elonazi's dickishness, stupidity, arrogance, and power to piss people off...

      OMG that's funny. 🤣 🤣

Some of them may quietly have the same political view as him, and at worse, most of them don't care about his views. Their failure to understand the rest of the world does mind just show that they're not half as smart as they think, and they're totally disconnected from the normal world.

You skipped the "mass market" part.

Detroit Electric from 1907 then. They produced 13 000 units in ~30 years. Obviously small numbers compared to today, but mass produced models anyway.

Even fucking goldfish remember what he's done. He has irreversibly associated Nazism with Tesla at the same time that cheaper and better electric vehicles are coming out of China. The only way is down and that's not going to change until he is no longer part of Tesla and a lot of time has passed.

So, we should be sending people to prison? Cause that's what happened to people involved in dieselgate. Along with the affected cars being recalled and the owners compensated.

Even European brands like Polestar belong to Chinese companies by a large share. But yes, German car manufacturers were asleep at the wheel and now they even lobby against the combustion engine ban because they would be left with near zero business.

Europeans still aren't buying Teslas with figures out Wednesday showing sales plunged for a fifth month in a row in May, a blow to investors who had hoped anger toward Elon Musk would have faded by now.

Tesla sales fell 28% last month in 30 European countries even as the overall market for electric vehicles expanded sharply, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association. The poor showing comes after Tesla's billionaire CEO had promised a “major rebound” was coming last month, adding to a recent buying frenzy among investors.

They were selling on Wednesday, pushing the prices down more than 4% in early afternoon trading.

I’ll be happy when there’s nothing to report because there are no more sales.

Unless he steps down as CEO and sells all his shares I don't see a Tesla redemption arc in Europe anytime soon.

And if he does step down as CEO and sell his shares, the stock will tank anyhow. The only reason it's currently about 100x over its realistic value is that people bought into the idea that Elon was this genius who was going to... well who knows. Nothing he could have done would have justified that valuation.

Of course, Elon would have to be rid of his Tesla shares also

The current move towards electrification would not have happened or would have taken a lot over without Tesla. The Model 3 really was a huge breakthrough by showing that you can build a car that people actually want to drive and make it affordable. That pretty much made all the excuses of the incumbents moot.

I don't think the 3 was a huge breakthrough, although it sure appeared to be, the S/roadster was really where it happened. The leaf had been out for several years, granted it had limited range in its first production models. The 3 was only remarkable because it had higher range at the price point, but that was more of a battery technology thing than a Tesla thing, as the bolt and leaf both had comparable range at the same price point around the same time, they just had the baggage of their manufacturers reputations and/or previous model specs holding back their PR.

Had a conversation about this the other day with a coworker, albeit about ICE cars but still applicable I think. Car manufacturers made tremendous progress in effeciency and negated all of that by justifying making their cars 2x bigger than they were 20 years ago. It's ridiculous. A modern Subaru Outback is about the same size as a mid-90s Suburban. Gets about the same mileage as my 2001 Outback, even with all the effeciency tech

I doubt Elon will go to jail for being an asshole. Tesla may get in troubles for the promises of unsupervised FSD, but that's not the issue here.

I was more thinking about the brand's reputation recovery.

Those advancements were made possible by the Roadster, which was the true pioneering product that made EVs cool again. A car that was dreamed up and invented by Martin Eberhard, and would go on to be built by someone else that gave him the shittiest end of the most shit-covered stick there ever was.

All credit due to Eberhard and Tarpenning for the idea and some of the initial development of the BMS, but its not like they had a full car ready to sell and before Musk came in. Tesla was established as a company in 2003, Musk was brought in (with his money) in 2004. The first Roadster sold in 2008. Now stop making me say anything positive about Musk just to set the record straight. Its making me sick to talk about him positively after what he's become and how much harm he has caused human society.

A TON of work was done before Tesla though, which is what I feel like continually is overlooked. Tesla (the company) was already standing on some very tall shoulders at its inception, and the engineers carried the real innovation forward after the takeover.

If you want EVs to be a thing, China has won the round on this one.

At this point if a person buys teslas they are either a Nazi or ignorant and neither is good.

Ignorant, e.g. the "I didn't know" crowd 1 mile downwind of the concentration camp.
