Al-Sharaa is actually kind of an ok guy. I don’t want to say that with complete conviction because unfortunately things haven’t gone well for Syrians for a long time and power vacuums can be dangerous when filled. That said, he seems to actually want to help his people, seems open to fair agreements and some more social responsible rules. I’m not going to speak on the woman as I have no idea, but peace with the Middle East and the US is a positive thing. Understanding them and being in a mutually respecting relationship will only serve us both well. I just hope that it ends up also being truly positive for all Syrians. They deserve peace and freedom after decades of oppression.

He's projecting the same orientalism back at the empire to illustrate a point. It was never about wearing a beard. Or even about joining ISIS.
It was about not being a politically advantageous ally to the US empire.

Add to that ICC chief prosecutor Karim Khan who has already been sanctioned by the US back in February for the crime of issuing an arrest warrant for a war criminal.

And that the actual ISIS terrorists, not the targets of Islamophobic smears, are getting off the terror list for obeying America and Israel.
