At this point they could probably just let parcel delivery drivers take care of letters. A lot more of those on the road these days.

You still need to sort them, and PostNord delivers parcels too. Probably in the future when you want to send a letter, you need to put it inside a package so they can process it using their parcel sorting machines

Here in Germany you can send letters via parcel mail. It's more expensive but this way you can make sure it'll go straight into the recipient's hands. So the infrastructure is there.

I am not sure if this is the right decision, given the hybrid warfare we see from Russia.

Removing the capabilities to send information, contracts and the like by post, could backfire quite strongly if Russia manages to sabotage electronic communication in parts or even the entire country.

          Meanwhile in Germany:

Fill out your application for the big central university exam, transmit it digitally to the state office, print it out, and send it mandatorily to them again physically, because greedy Bundesdruckerei lobbied to avoid generally being able to sign documents with your passport

The rest of Europe (and the world) needs to emulate Estonia.

            How? You mean DHL Express?
            Or just regular Deutsche Post

Yeah, you can't send your vote by mail. Instead you can vote up to three months before election day at designated places, like municipal offices, retirement homes, libraries, prisons, and hospitals

I read this like "lol, thats dumb. Stupid danes". Then I realized they also use PostNord, and that we were equally dumb in getting rid of the Swedish state postal service cause now we will probably enshittify eventually as well..

Everyone always brings Estonia when talking about digital administration.

But here in Spain I have never had to go to a government office to bring papers for more than a decade, everything can be done online. I'm not sure what can be done digitally in Estonia that couldn't be done in Spain. But I'm really curious.
