There's a clear up tick on daily users growing and we've crossed the 50k line as of yesterday! LETSSS GOOO!

using "jokes" to push conservatism is a common tactic of crypto-fascists as is warmongering shitposts like noncredibledefense or spreading 4chan greentexts, both of which are the top communities on SJW (intentionally chosen by the way) which combined with the transphobic admins creates a alt-right vibe on sh.itjust.works
I am quite far from being a conservative and I am well aware of what happened to r/TheDonald and I am trying to walk that fine line, I plan to lock the comm entirely if I feel like it's shifting away from true satire.
Despite what Tankies think about me, I'm actually pretty far left, I would even love to see the fall of capitalism in my lifetime. Where we differ is the fact that I don't consider swapping out capitalism with just another form of authoritarianism is the path forward whatsoever
That being said, I've seen your type of opinion before, and I simply don't agree, a lot of people need a varying range of humor to deal with harsh realities, like with the fact that MaGA and other global alt-right movements appears to be "winning"
Take a look through my comment history and it'll be abundantly clear, to be ever more clear, Fuck Trump, Fuck Putin, Fuck Muskrat, Fuck AfD, and fuck any other Right-wing leader/political party around the world

It helps to see communities as categories for an instance, each instance will have a different response to the same post based on the general instance vibe and culture. That's also why picking a good instance to browse locally can be pretty useful.
I like that view, and it made me think of a possible "implementation"/"fix" as well:
- Combine the post somehow (Based on attachment/title/something else?)
- Filter/categorize the comments by instance that the comment was originally posted towards (Not by user, as that would be awful)
The largest issue here that I can see, how do we treat "new" comments to a post?
My annoyance is primarily with the fact that I see the same image 3x in a row, on a fairly regular basis. I might unsub from a few communities that share the same content.

There are many different workarounds, I personally don't put much stock into sorting by "all" generally, sorting locally tends to be a better experience and has less repetition.

It did you dirty with this one lol

Is this something that should be really celebrated? I mean, the reason I joined is because it's not reddit. And I feel that this place will turn into reddit 2.0 if we're not careful.
The beauty of the fediverse is that you can pick exactly what you want.
Would you like reddit 2.0 where the admins will do what they can to ban "luigi's manefesto" from being posted? You can do that!
Not my cup of tea, but yall do you
-
And here comes the fun part: It can't turn into Reddit 2.0.
If you don't like the policy of your Instance, just join an Instance that fits you more, or create one your own. This is the biggest draw for me. No more switching services finally.

Sounds like a good solution for people who are on larger instances, my instance does not host any communities sadly.
You can pseudo-curate by only subscribing to your most prefered instance of comm, but you won't be able to see instances with allow-lists as the basis, rather than block-lists.

What happened around February 12?
The domain registration lapsed and somebody tried to make money off of it.
-
It's a bizarre thing to go after. I really don't like the pro luigi posts cos he murdered someone and that's not ok... but people are allowed to have their own opinion and most of it IME is tongue in cheek. There's far more important issues they could look at (Russian interference, reddit being used for crime etc) but no... luigi. Ffs.
Luigi Mangione has not been convicted and is innocent until proven guilty.

The admins managed to get Hexbear.net back and the sale of the domain was stopped.
Hey that's great news! Thanks for letting me know.

Welcome! We've got memes on deck at [email protected] and if you're a programmer of some kinds we got [email protected] to scratch that itch and be sure to drop a shit(post) off at [email protected] or if you want SCIENCE and memes head over to the wonderful [email protected] or if you just want regular SCIENCE mander.xyz is full of sciency comms like [email protected] and [email protected] . [email protected] is also nice this time of year, but you'll have to post before you can leave.
We're not without our cons though, biggest problem we have are probably the Tankies (Authoritarian "communists" who will overlook any wrong doings of China, Russia, NK because they think their governments are the "gold standard"), but here they're mostly on the Tankie Triad lemmy.ml, lemmygrad and hexbear. You have a .ee account so you only have to worry about .ml, but on Lemmy you can do a personal instance wide block if you'd rather just not deal with them. If you want to see what they get up to from a safe distance check [email protected]
Solidarity amongst the instances! We will not be divided against each other!

Hey that's great news! Thanks for letting me know.
No problem! Federation should resume by the end of the month.
-
I signed up for hexbear out of morbid curiosity, that place feels like an insane asylum.
I was banned there as well, although maybe the ban is gone with the domain drama. It's their instance, they should run it how they want.

Same here: Deleted my 13y Reddit account along with every other US tech account except Google, as I need that for my livelihood.
Censorship wasn't the motivation. Rather; I'm withdrawing my support for the US economy in any way possible, given the shocking geopolitical events of this year and the way they are treating Ukraine.
Besides, the Federverse feels like going back to the internet's roots and I'm here for it!

I thought the whole point of Lemmy was that it didn't matter what instance you joined. Can I move my account, or do I need to make a new one on a new instance?
You have to make a new one.
I've been on .ml for half a year and it's a good one. Not many defederations, so I can pick what instances i want to see and not have some faceless admin pick for me.
If you really struggle with certain users who are passionate about certain topics, just block them. This is true for any instance. Don't forget to block me to. Thanks.
-
I had to switch instances 3 times before I found one I was okay with.
That's about how it went for me. This is pretty much my home instance, but I also keep an account on a more local lemmy for chatting with the townies.
Also experimenting with my own instance. Still workin out the kinks.

If you are here and want lemmy to succeed, please consider donating. The devs used to get by mostly on nlnet foundation grants but are trying to shift to a more sustainable donation based model. You can see how they are doing on the join-lemmy website when you scroll down to the bottom, there are also links to their liberapay (preferred option) paetreon, etc.

I donated monthly for almost 2 years, and they never even added me on the donator page. Petty reason, but at this point I don't even know how much they care.
