I never cared for game informer. It always felt like GameStop was trying to shill it in order to sell subscriptions to a magazine that's basically a giant advertisement for GameStop.
Gimme those cooler magazines. Game Pro, Nintendo Power, PSM etc.
Most magazines are just ads.

People are into vinyl and tube TVs again. Barnes & Noble just opened a huge branch in a hot (meaning: expensive) neighborhood here in Chicago. I guess people like physical things again.

Oh man. If you think game dev has been having a rough go of it lately, games media was already a smoking crater before all the waves of dev layoffs began. Now GI wants to dive back in and restart their print offering too? There are a bunch of good people over there and I'm happy there getting another chance unshackled from GameStop, but woof. I see it in a different light. The people that were raised on digital goods finally have the money to purchase physical goods.
Just enough money to buy some physical goods, but not enough to buy so many that storage becomes a problem…

i have the money but not the space. i used to have a subscription back in ps2-ps3 gen but the world has changed. now i just follow a few people on youtube, pateron and use sites like this or reddit for news.

I really liked GI and i was saddened by their closure. Quality journalism (gaming and elsewhere) is dying, substituted by AI slop, paid influencers and clickbait articles.
Hopefully a few of the good ones remain. This is a step in the right direction.

I've been getting a major kick out of the retro games community!
They're reviewing old games, reviewing new games that look/act retro, interviewing designers of old games. It's glorious.

Those were the best ads tho. Game informer was just a GameStop ad. And GameStop always made me feel bad.
