Acronyms are a pet peeve of mine. Basically useless and now you need tribal knowledge to understand what the hell someone is talking about.
Somehow, 10% of the acronyms reduce to "TLA". Including the very nice self-explanatory "three letter acronym".

Game Master?
Grandmaster?

I have this problem when people use abreviations for game names. There are so many games that it's impossible for me to understand.
And good luck to find out which game it is if it's a new one you never heard of...I was talking with some friends about Dune stuff (after the recent game came out) and was mentioning stuff in the books. I had used the name before, but I type CoD once and they were confused why I was talking about Call of Duty, but it was Children of Dune.

God of War vs Gears of War are my least favorite but there are others like when it’s solo, ie D2.
No love for guild wars, I see

Oh yeah, for me MW is MechWarrior. Modern Warfare is a BBS door game.

The CEO at my old company really likes the expression "Let's fucking go" for some reason. Lots of "LFG" in the work chat. I guess he eats a lot of LinkedIn slop or something.
But to me, "LFG" means looking for group. I'm sitting here like why is the CEO spamming for group content during the work day, and he's not even saying what role he's playing.
Lol, my running group uses "CD" for cool-down. I'm always confused as to why and how they are cross-dressing for 2 kilometers.

It took a very long time to find out that "five by five" means "all is well." In fact, until I looked it up just now to confirm my memory, I didn't know it was derived from aviation.
I knew the aviation context before I looked it up because of StarCraft.

I don't know how many times I had to look up "SMH" before I got it.
Then people started using "SMDH", and I could start all over again, because you can't figure simple damn things out after a certain age.
Yeh for some reason that one took a really long time to stick. I kept reading it as Sydney Morning Herald.

I was really hoping that reading all the comments would inform me about what GM means here

Guild of Wars? GoW is the initialism in question

I wouldn't wish anyone General Motors
What if they're currently Stellantis?

What if they're currently Stellantis?
I wouldn't wish Stellantis on anyone either! They own Fiat who owns Jeep! Gross!

wrote last edited by [email protected]Yes. It's bare minimum to name our specialization and what we still need with each request.
Let's see if I still have my keyboard macro:
"I'm a shitty under-geared DPS and I am LFG with tank, healer, and decent DPS"
Yep. My keyboard macro still works.
Edit: Self own aside, this approach did get me invited to the right groups.

Headline:
BLM riots in Manhattan
Me:
Well that's pretty out of character for the Bureau of Land Management...
Nowadays it's more like the behavior appropriate to the situation.

given the context, i suspect it just means 'good morning'

given the context, i suspect it just means 'good morning'
The fact that someone would shorten 'good morning' to 'GM' and go through the trouble to put it in all caps bothers me

wrote last edited by [email protected]Probably I heard it there, as I played extensively as a kid, but I guess I never absorbed it.
edit: I still am not sure if I like FUTO as a keyboard, but I'm not a fan of it randomly inserting words. Here I have removed one of those.
