I played about 15 hours with a friend and honestly found it to be a very annoying experience

The combat never felt satisfying, and reminded me a little too much of destiny 2. By this I mean that all the shots from your guns sounded and felt like you were roughly sneezing on the enemies, and the ui felt too "clean" for what was supposed to be a more gritty game

The layouts of the dungeons felt nonsensical, such as in that one British town setting, or absolutely mind numbingly boring, such as in the futuristic open desert one

After my time playing, it felt like I was making no story progress (besides the characters sometimes saying "wow where's that one character we saw for all of ten minutes"), and it was never clear how I was supposed to progress. This is in stark contrast to dark souls, where this is an intended and relishable experience

To clarify, are you talking about Remnant 1 or 2? Which one is better?

It's a big improvement on every area, especially the bosses and levels.

It's the kind of game that makes it hard to go back to the original.

Good to know! I played through most of the first, which I felt like I was ultimately tolerating...

Bonus points if it has a good story. Also, I'm not going to play DRM-controlled games

Ghost Recon Wildlands is one of the best. Not sure about the DRM situation.

The first game felt like a really cool tech demo with the occasional cool boss here and there.

The sequel is that concept turned into a proper game. Each world now has it's own mini-campaign that ends in a final boss with dialogue, minor choices and everything.

The bosses are my favorite part though, the main ones are extremely creative and polished, especially the final one.

When I was a kid I had a blast playing Time Splitters: Future Perfect on my friend’s PS2. Such a fun game, with a great co-op story mode.

It’s got to be one of the best co-op games ever made IMO. Also a ton of fun to be had with the arcade modes.

Already played 500h+ of DRG with close friends that don't live close by.

Great game to have fun, talk, but also challenging if you want it to be.

                Can't recommend it enough!

I've had a lot of fun with Roboquest.

Sanctum 1 & 2 are fun fps mixed with tower defence.

Deep Rock Galactic is fantastic, like others have mentioned.

Just got Robocop and Wolfenstein New Order on a decent sale on GOG, loving Wolfenstein so far..

Love Left 4 Dead 2, timeless classic.

Borderlands series (Tiny Tina's Wonderlands as well), Gunfire Reborn, Vermintide 2, Helldivers 2, Remnant: From the Ashes, Valheim (not fps but you can use mods for first person view) and coop is amazing in Valheim, Nioh 2. Also could do Gears series (3rd is best, 4th and 5th are ok but still decent fun with friends).

I've been into co-op games lately with my friends.

Edit: steam spring sales is coming soon™. Can't wait to grab a few of those.

The problem with the first (I haven't played the second), was that it felt like a story game where you play through the story in one go, when it ultimately turned out to be an instance grinding game to get gear to progress.

I went in expecting dark souls with guns, but got the weird love child of world of warcraft and dark souls with a reset button to progress.

I think my favorite couch coop game was Resistance on playstation 3. Some friends had it and we spent an entire week blasting through the game. It had a lot of potential for fun, like when I meleed the enemy in the face, then my friend with a sniper rifle slowed time, aimed between my character's arms for the recoiling head of the enemy and got the headshot.
