Some real doozies in there. I had to get selective here and eventually stop there were so many outright lies. They really had it in for the EU.

Alcohol sales – EU ‘bans boozing’, Feb 2005

Baby rattles – EC to ban noisy toys, Jan 1996

Bagpipes – EU safety directives to ban playgrounds, trapeze artists and bagpipes, Aug 2005

        Playgrounds? Lol!

Balloons – EU bans children from blowing up balloons, Oct 2011

Chinese toys – Chinese toy imports are to be banned unless humanlike in form, Jul 1994

Clothing, zips – EU plans to ban zipper trousers, May 1999

Cod – Cod no longer to be called cod thanks to EU, Sep 2001

And on and on and on....It's some list!

...and that Britain would be forced to get rid of pints, acres, inches, feet and pounds in favour of metric measurements.

Don't threaten me with a good time. Maybe keep the pint for beer and wine purposes.

The EU was cracking down on tax evasion by increasing financial reporting.

To the rich in the UK, that was like the threat of the holocaust, they could actually have to pay taxes for once.

The sad thing is that politicians in Britain have been using the EU as a distraction and a scapegoat for decades. Brexit was the price of that stupidity.

One might call me apologetic, but I personally feel like paying taxes is not exactly holocausty.

Then again, I don't know any rich people, so maybe I'm just biased.

They see taxes as theft against them personally by corrupt politicians to either steal for themselves or use to buy votes of the worthless poor.

That's why they consider lobbying to be sacrosanct, it's their only way to keep control of the politicians like they need to for everyone's welfare.

It's their country, they are exceedingly generous in letting us live in it.

It goes to show how common it is for right wing sources to push ignorance over the long term to achieve their goals. The USA saw the same thing starting in the 1990s when the right wing started questioning evolution.

An Imperial pint is 58cl. An American pint is 47cl. Thus in the UK 50cl is smaller.

I wonder what percentage of these were made up by Boris Johnson writing for the Daily Telegraph in the mid-90s?

It didn't start in the 90's. Pushing ignorance predates the formation of the United States. What you're referring to is the successful fight back by the right that started after education started succeeding in freeing people from the historic ignorance.

The right thought they were going to get people who could build better weapons through education. When they realized that they were also getting reasonable, compassionate people who could feel empathy, they decided it wasn't worth the cost.
