There's a clear up tick on daily users growing and we've crossed the 50k line as of yesterday! LETSSS GOOO!

This graph doesn't make sense to me. The drops on the two graphs shouldn't line up, right? Make me sus
That's when hexbear.net (part of the tankie triad) went offline because their domain expired and the domain admin was MIA. Unfortunately, they were able to reclaim it, so the graph should correct back when they start federating again
-
I just hope this place doesn't become another reddit, it's already becoming one because of all you redditors moving here with your redditry.
That's pretty rude TBH, judging a user just because of what site they came from is not cool, judge them for their actions and words when they get here. Not their former site

Lemmy is the only federated service I actually enjoy using. Just missing being able to block an entire @something instead of having to block every single community of it
and no I do not want to "choose another host that does block it", it should be a user choice.

You mean an instance block? You can do that, but it's more of an instance "mute"
But I hear Piefed has real proper blocking of instances

Still counts as "engagement":-)
Poison pill enagement and to steal content. Also trying to protect others from misinformation as some of the subs I have, in theory, could be weaponised by monied interests.
We do what we can.

But they were still users who were active in that half-year, so even when they went offline it shouldn't have resulted in a dip

Welcome happy you're here! We've got memes on deck at [email protected] and if you're a programmer of some kinds we got [email protected] to scratch that itch and be sure to drop a shit(post) off at [email protected] or if you want SCIENCE and memes head over to the wonderful [email protected] or if you just want regular SCIENCE mander.xyz is full of sciency comms like [email protected] and [email protected]. [email protected] is also nice this time of year, but you'll have to post before you can leave.
We're not without our cons though, biggest problem we have are probably the Tankies (Authoritarian "communists" who will overlook any wrong doings of China, Russia, NK because they think their governments are the "gold standard"), but here they're mostly on the Tankie Triad lemmy.ml, lemmygrad and hexbear. You have a Reddit.org account so iirc you only need to worry about .ml, but on Lemmy you can do a personal instance wide block if you'd rather just not deal with them. If you want to see what they get up to from a safe distance check [email protected]
Welcome to the fediverse, here is my anti-“tankie triad” copypasta spam.
How is an incessant pattern of instance harassment appropriate for [email protected]?

How does that work? I just don't want to get the major nsfw and reddit reposting stuff in my feed

You would warn newcomers about the Tankie Triad too if you had repeatedly seen all the stories of "I tried Lemmy, but it just seemed like a bunch of tankies, turns out it was just because I was on .ml when I tried it again"
There's tons more that never came back and go on life thinking Lemmy is Voat 2.0. I know this because there's plenty of comments on Reddit whenever Lemmy comes up about "it's just Tankies over there"
Yes, how dare I try to protect Lemmy's rep, I don't want to see this place become Voat 2.0

If you use an app it may or may not handle it properly or at all, but from the website you should be able to go-to feddit.nl/settings and the block tab and then you'll have the ability to block users, comms or whole instances from there
I say it's more of a mute because those users can still interact with your posts/comments (up/down vote, comment on) you just won't see it. It's been a highly discussed problem

Ah I get it now, you're most likely a .ml alt account, so goodbye!
Tankie definition: "authoritarian communists, especially those who support acts of repression by such regimes, their allies, or deny the occurrence of the events thereof.

Ohh like that, yeah I don't care as long as I don't see them really. Never use block features anyways, mute is enough for me. Thanks for the info!!

In that particular case I believe it's left wing - echo chambers can function on both sides.
Well not in that case, because it's pressure from the right wing that is enforcing the undue censorship on reddit.
-
I just really wish there was more active communities for things I like.
I made the Path of Exile community which is currently empty.
There's no Burning Man community yet for SOME UNKNOWN REASON
All the EDM communities are dead including the one I made.
Send Help!
Make sure to promote your new communities at [email protected] and [email protected] - Lemmy doesn't have an algorithm so getting off the ground will take some effort. Beware that we're still at below critical mass for easy sustaining of niche communities, so if you desire for one you will probably have to be the one doing the majority of the posting yourself for a while.

Just randomly found this searching something unrelated, and suddenly I have an account. I've been a reddit user since it took over from digg. Which sort of took over from things like /.
Well now I feel old. Thanks
And judging by your username you found a great instance to call home as well! Welcome, let us know if you need anything. Since there is no recommendation algorithm here I suggest subscribing to [email protected] and [email protected] to help find new communities to subscribe to.

I meant the case for Midwest.Social was left wing.
I thought for Reddit people were also saying that it was left wing, due to calls for Luigi-type violence, but what are you saying about it being due to right wing? To clarify, I genuinely am asking, bc I left Reddit nearly two years ago and except to look something up quickly in specific subs, have not read e.g. r/popular since then, so I don't have any sense of what that culture has been like.
-
That's a very reddit thing to say

Yeah, there's no such thing as left wing censorship currently because the media ownership is right wing. Maybe the midwest sub tries leaning that way, but restricting discussion is a right wing tactic. Especially when that discussion is about populist actions against large corporations and their toadies.

I'm locking this because too many people are shouting at each other here because of moderation practices.
This is not a complaints forum. See pinned post.
