Elizabeth Holmes comes to mind. She manoeuvred herself into a position of wealth and power by defrauding other rich people and got herself 11 years in prison for it. That's 11 years more than most other rich scumbags get.

While I am not American, I have lived in the the US and have many close friends there. Feels that way to me. I wasn't there like at the very beginning, but was able to be in a few small subreddits turn big. Some turned to shit, some turned okay. Lemmy/mbin a.k.a. threadiverse seems like it was before my time I started with reddit
