Reddit’s 50% Plunge Fails to Entice Dip Buyers as Growth Slows.

The gloomy sentiment around Reddit Inc. has failed to dissipate after its shares fell 50% from a February high, with volatile technology stocks under pressure.
Reddit has very weak leadership in my opinion.
I wouldn't be betting on them, especially when their user base is going to want them to stand up for them and the Elon fiasco shows Spez won't.
It's a tinderbox before the next large Reddit protest happens again and more niche communities splinter off to the fediverse.

There is also something about those 3 people I can’t put my finger on….
lol that was my immediate thought too. But I didn’t want to bring it up because even with the racist implications those guys all definitely suck and should be in prison.

I left Reddit today. I'm not looking back. I'm absolutely done with these organizations that bow to fascist whimsy and demands. Pathetic stuff from Steve and the admins at Reddit. I hope their stock tanks and they lose their ass.

With the push to please investors, user experience will likely suffer even more.
Not just investors, but the fascist US government.

Sadly I'm sure he already has a golden parachute prepared.

i wonder if reddit will eventually ragequit and restrict access to all content in there before trying to sell it off

You gotta Field of Dreams it. I’m doing it for LV426/the Aliens universe. Just treat it like you’re starting a forum or a newsletter and, hopefully in time, others will contribute and it’ll grow organically.

The LLMs already got trained with all the reddit data ...

Reddit refuge here.
I do miss all the niche subreddits. As the saying goes, “there’s a subreddit for everything.”
But I think with time, Lemmy can grow to fill that gap.
These days I go 50/50 on Reddit and Lemmy. I know it’s a chicken and egg problem for content, but hopefully 50% usage is enough to change things over time.

I was offered a chance to buy into reddit's IPO. I knew it was a bad idea and I'm glad i didn't

Fascism and other authoritarian systems aren't a measuring contest though. Just because somewhere else has been doing it longer or is more effectively doesn't mean somewhere else isn't doing or trying to do the same thing.
A benevolent dictatorship is still a dictatorship for example. While the Republicans have enacted widespread voter suppression that didn't guarantee winning an election, that doesn't mean they aren't working on the steps to guarantee it in the next election. Fascism doesn't require complete and total success to be fascism.
I completely agree. I don't mean to imply it is a competition. As I said, being better than russia is not much of an achievement.
But I do think the correct term for the US as it is today is proto-fascist. It's also important to not ignore the transition into full scale fascis.

Once a company becomes publicly traded it always gets worse. Once the shareholders are closer to the executive compensation packages than the customers/users it is all downhill. It is like clockwork.
Might take a year, might take 10, but the result is inevitable.

That's what you get for supporting fascism. Fuck you spez.

I'm gonna try to guess the most likely LLM response to your post, trained on reddit data:
"This."
How'd I do?

I'm trying to figure that out but I I have to make my own server? Or is it a sub on lemmy.world? There definitely a learning curve
In my case I'm just posting a lot to already-created communities found in the Lemmy directory that've got a chunk of subscribers.
If you're going to start your own community for your own interest, I'd advise at least setting up on an already-populated Lemmy server (which you would have to be registered on) so it gets listed in the local directory.
If you're going to host the Lemmy server and your community, I have no experience on that front/I would imagine there's a lot of SEO and self-promotion you'd have to do to get it off the ground.

Same for me using Boost on Android. It looks like Reddit only without the bots and AI slop.
Same! I'm still a little confused about the way the federation works but I love the decentralization and democratization of the platform. And Boost makes it feel very familiar.

Wait until they figure out that reddit provides very little of value. The users are the ones who post content and keep the site alive.

Reddit banned me for saying mean things about Elon and I'm not going back. Good riddance.

US is not yet fascist in the formal definition of the term, thing can and likely will get worse.
Yes it is. We are already at the dictatorial stage in practice with the legislature and SCOTUS complying voluntarily by not enacting checks and balances. Everything else, like the nationalism, demonizing groups, and the rest are in full swing. Don't need death camps to be fascist, although we are well on our way down that road.
What criteria isn't being met yet in your opinion?
I think the piece that has yet to be tested is elections. As of now, we still live under the pretense that we will have a fair election.
The case can be made that the voter suppression tactics from the far right are eliminating the possibility of a fair election. Or that Elon Musks involvement has led to fraud, or at least, massive corruption to our electoral system. But at the end of the day, we still have a collective idea that the fix for this is an election that will remove them from power.
When the midterms come, that will be the real test.

While most people would likely move to Digg v2.0 (I am just being realistic)
Are people actually going? The only thing I've heard about it (the AI-fueled reboot) is that it was planned.
Personally I am done with corporate controlled social media sites. Just need a replacement for Youtube now.
