Reddit’s 50% Plunge Fails to Entice Dip Buyers as Growth Slows.

Same for me using Boost on Android. It looks like Reddit only without the bots and AI slop.
Same! I'm still a little confused about the way the federation works but I love the decentralization and democratization of the platform. And Boost makes it feel very familiar.

The gloomy sentiment around Reddit Inc. has failed to dissipate after its shares fell 50% from a February high, with volatile technology stocks under pressure.
Wait until they figure out that reddit provides very little of value. The users are the ones who post content and keep the site alive.

I left Reddit today. I'm not looking back. I'm absolutely done with these organizations that bow to fascist whimsy and demands. Pathetic stuff from Steve and the admins at Reddit. I hope their stock tanks and they lose their ass.
Reddit banned me for saying mean things about Elon and I'm not going back. Good riddance.

US is not yet fascist in the formal definition of the term, thing can and likely will get worse.
Yes it is. We are already at the dictatorial stage in practice with the legislature and SCOTUS complying voluntarily by not enacting checks and balances. Everything else, like the nationalism, demonizing groups, and the rest are in full swing. Don't need death camps to be fascist, although we are well on our way down that road.
What criteria isn't being met yet in your opinion?
I think the piece that has yet to be tested is elections. As of now, we still live under the pretense that we will have a fair election.
The case can be made that the voter suppression tactics from the far right are eliminating the possibility of a fair election. Or that Elon Musks involvement has led to fraud, or at least, massive corruption to our electoral system. But at the end of the day, we still have a collective idea that the fix for this is an election that will remove them from power.
When the midterms come, that will be the real test.

While most people would likely move to Digg v2.0 (I am just being realistic)
Are people actually going? The only thing I've heard about it (the AI-fueled reboot) is that it was planned.
Personally I am done with corporate controlled social media sites. Just need a replacement for Youtube now.

Oh no! Anyways, what's everyone's Friday plans?
Might go to church.

They 7-day banned me for 'encouraging violence' for saying I didn't think Mangione deserved to go to jail for what he did. I appealed it and it was lifted, but not before it was upgraded to a permanent ban for ban-evasion on other accounts (I've never had more than one account in my 14 years of reddit.) The perma-ban was lifted on appeal too, but by that point I was just like fuuuuck off.
Same thing happened to me. I told a guy to fuck off and got banned for not being nice. I appealed, but before that process completed, they permanbanned my 14 year account. I like that on Lemmy I can say normally uncontroversial things like "Nazi scum fuck off".

Gee, that's too bad. It would be a real shame if that piece of human garbage Steve Huffman lost everything. A crying shame.

I feel like I have simpler reasons for leaving Reddit.
The third party apps quit working and the site and app run like shit and take forever to load.
Simple problems, simple solutions.

Same reason I left. Why hang around to get yelled at by bots about "living in a liberal Reddit echo chamber" WHILE the entire site is sucking fascist dick the entire time?
I remember when I got banned for saying that hey maybe it isn't hate speech to say that Israel shouldn't murder children.

Israel has killed more women and children than any other demographic. They have committed a genocide and the US president has called for an intensification and expansion of the genocide. Even going so far as to say he wants to ethnically cleanse Gaza.

I'm trying to figure that out but I I have to make my own server? Or is it a sub on lemmy.world? There definitely a learning curve
You don’t have to make your own server (unless you really want to!). Just start a community on a server you like.
The one catch is that others can start a community of the same name and/or interest on another server and that gets a little confusing because then there are two, of course.
I wish that communities could “federate” with each other from different instances but then that raises a bunch of logistics issues about how this is moderated, how is this presented to the users, etc.

Community oriented websites have no growth potential once you've mined the community.

Reddit banned me for saying mean things about Elon and I'm not going back. Good riddance.
Everything he does basically invites people to say mean stuff about him.
Perhaps he could just stop doing those things? Thinking out loud here,

Reddit has very weak leadership in my opinion.
I wouldn't be betting on them, especially when their user base is going to want them to stand up for them and the Elon fiasco shows Spez won't.
It's a tinderbox before the next large Reddit protest happens again and more niche communities splinter off to the fediverse.
Reddit is the Titanic, leadership is the iceberg, and the fediverse is the welcoming ocean.

That’s actually the main reason most left, Lemmy has never seen a bigger increase in MAU before or after the death of 3rd party apps.
Not to say the other stuff isn’t important, but for me Reddit WAS Apollo. Without it, it didn’t even feel like the same service. Enough people felt the same about their preferred apps that they left en masse in 2023.

I left because once you see that most posts are just commercials and advertising and then you realize how they sell our attention span instead of paying us for it then I left. I don't work all day just to come home and make someone else money. Cut me in or eat shit.
