    Seems a bit excessive.

I mean if China wants to spend 17 billion euros on building a giant ring, let them???

I'm all for science but I think we have bigger concerns right now then smashing particles together.

It's great that we could build it, but why?

just one more collider bro. i promise bro just one more collider and we'll find all the particles bro. it's just a bigger collider bro. please just one more. one more collider and we'll figure out dark matter bro. bro cmon just give me 22 billion dollars and we'll solve physics i promise bro. bro bro please we
just need to build one more collider t

Because it's interesting for science, worst case we de precision Higgs physics, best case, we finally find SUSY, extra dimensions or whatever.

Among all the technology developed using LHC money 30 to 20 years ago, the most famous would be the Web (Sharing documents as Web pages linked through hypertext link) but it also gave a huge push to superconducting magnet, vacuum and even detector technology. With everyday application in health (e.g. Imaging) but also enabling research in other field (Particle accelerators are way more common than you think)

Finally, I am rather competing with Russia/China using particle accelerators than guns and tanks

So it looks like a way better investment than fighter jet or tax discount for billionaires

You can't compete with collider against Russian tanks.

To see what happens when we point the pew at the pew.

Also the discovery of the Higgs Boson, precision measurement of fundamental constants, and creating the largest collaboration of scientists, engineers, and techicians in the history of humankind.

But mostly the pew pew 😃

just wait until you hear what happens when an artillery shell gets within a certain distance of a tank

I know what happens in reality -- I'm a Ukrainian veteran. But I'm not sure what you want to say.

Save that joke to the Russian soldier when he will collide his bayonet with your guts.

I don't think that this is a good idea... after the LHC was activated in 2008 we somehow broke the universe and ended up in THIS timeline, i don't want to think about the possibilities if they activate an even bigger particle collider!

Scientists are proposing it's the only way to get us back to the proper timeline.
