    Thoughts?

Your family comes from a rural area with very low cost of living...

    His doesn't.

My family are hillbillies, it's extremely common to have people on my family tree that died at 2 or under, in part because every generation before me was well into double digit kids.

I've got an unnamed aunt who died at like 1.5 years, there's a "grave" because my grandparents already owned a plot, so they used that and their tombstone says "and baby". But there wasn't a stone till the first grandparent died decades later.

City people think shit like that just happened in Game of Thrones. It's just not taught how bad some areas of the US was/is.

If this happened to me, I’d just chalk it up to a ~2 year time loss and go for another pregnancy.

To deal with the horrible reality of frequent infant/toddler deaths, the people who experienced it normalized it and convinced themselves it wasn't a big deal. It takes a couple generations to get over that mentality.

Once that happens it would be emotionally crushing and potentially life ruining.

If that's what's going on, you two need to have a frank discussion about cultural differences. There's going to be other things that pop up like this, and you won't know till they come up. But it's important for you both to understand it's gonna happen and keep an open mind.
