I can't really imagine what else it could mean as lefties supporting the oppression of women makes no sense at all. These freedoms are a big part of being left leaning and it is the right that puts these restrictions in place.
In bad lefty extremism, you are all equal under the foot of my boot. Your bones crush all the same. Lol Both extreme sides aren't great, one side is particularly more known for the sexism and gendered oppression than the other. Not that it can't happen.
I'll chock it up to not knowing what actually is going on in the world instead of pure malice. Knowing you are being lied to your whole life is hard to accept.

Not always. In some countries, it’s simply illegal to cover your face in public - that applies to balaclavas just as much as burqas.
