hi that's me, i was one of the many students. usually at least 30min before though as we often got warned that the submission servers could be slowed down around the deadline itself so i didn't want to risk it

why? adhd. i am close to incapable of starting a task if it's not urgent. it's not fun but forcing my brain to not do that is actual hell

I have ADHD too. The trick is to trick your brain into thinking it's urgent by training yourself to have anxiety anytime there is a looming deadline.

Worked great for me and I got a 4.0 in engineering. But now I have anxiety issues.

When I was in college, I remember one of my profs telling me that so many students submit assignments just before the 12am deadline. I always thought it was madness that someone would play it that close to the deadline, but people do.

Theoretically, turning in near the deadline gives time for one more editing session. The assignment could have been done days prior. Theoretically.

          Submits

          It says: "Late"

          Utter Confusion

          Glances at deadline

          "Due at 11:59 AM"

(Reason why 24 hour format is superior)

I'm personally a fan of the 12 hour format for casual conversation and 24h for anything else. 4 PM or 4 in the afternoon sounds better than 16:00 for casual speak imo.

But man, I'm bad with the 24h format lol. I often need to consciously correct myself in that 18:00 =/= 8 PM.

Frankly you don't even need to use AM/PM for casual conversation... "I'll see you at four" almost certainly doesn't mean 4am unless it's very clear from contextual information, same for verbally booking appointments

It's just things like travel timings etc which are likely going to be written anyway where you actually need that clarification

Throughout school I used to panic a couple days before the deadline that I had to get something done. I tried to work on the essays but didn't manage to do anything and then got a lot calmer as I told myself that I'd easily have enough time if I started the next day. Then the next day came and I panicked again, until I ran some calculations in my head that I'd be able to make it if I started in the evening. And this continued through several cycles until I went into full panic and despair 30 minutes before the deadline.

I could rarely make it on time.

Somehow the closer I got to the deadline the less time it felt like the project would take. My procrastinative brain took over and made up excuses to not have to do it yet as there was still plenty of time. I almost failed 8th grade because of that. Fucking 8th grade. And I didn't even relax while procrastinating!

Might be a good idea to get an ADHD assessment.
