Inside job gives them too much credit, imo.
Fact is they already knew about Bin Laden and simply decided "you know, what if we just turned around for a second and, well, if something were to happen...?"
And to do that? A tiny budget cut here, a little policy shift there, and... kaboom!
Not so much that they planned anything themselves regarding the attack, they just lowered their guard enough to let it happen.

That’s why right wing social media is going had on making Iran the bad guys and evil.
So even though they don’t want war and are currently complaining about the thought of it, they’ll bend over for it in short time.
The mental gymnastics will be amazing.
Gotta save money. Government needs to cut everything including any social care. But also needs to spend more on deporting babies with cancer.
And you know moving an expeditionary force around the world isn’t cheap either.
The money goes to the war hawks, not the teenagers that actually end up fighting and dying. That's why it keeps happening. People in power put a price and bodies and they're entirely happy with the payout. Doesn't cost them a drop of sweat, an inkling of blood, a modicum of effort. Just sign here and unleash those kids to the grinder. Sweet sweet money comes from their deaths. How honorable.

It’s really sad - back on 9/11, I thought “That’s horrible! What kind of evil country could hate us so much they’d want to attack our civilians!?”
Now, if another 9/11 happens, I may just shrug and think “…Yeah…we’re America. We deserve it.”
