Maybe to feel some sort of connection? I made a Mii for my recently dead grandma in Tomodachi Life on the DS. It helped a bit with the grieving.

The sims has a family tree. It's possible that if they also made their grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins/half siblings they'd want that to be reflected in game how they're related. Also, your sims can have memories, so maybe they'd want their sim dad to have the memory of falling in love with their sim mom. Those are often autogenerated if you make two married sims, but I forget the specifics for the sims 3.

Interesting. I used it as wish fulfillment/playing as an adult, so I had no interest in putting my dad in the game whatsoever. Putting my mum in would feel very strange. (I struggled the words for this a lot).

However, every person deals with death and their relationship to their dead loved ones differently, so I can't judge.

Toss in some baguettes and paint-based magic and that's a recipe for a great video game

                The Nod - Saving Grace
This is a podcast about a woman who did something similar with her deceased grandmother that I really enjoyed.

Here is an article I found while trying to find the podcast I found this article about someone who does the same with all her friends that have died.
