The Nintendo Switch 2 Is the Fastest-Selling Gaming Hardware in U.S. History - IGN

I have lost faith in humanity. When people just keep buying scams like these they are getting just rewarded for such predatory practices.
Nintendo has increased the prices for some of their games, but they are far less predatory than many companies with their live-services and micro-transactions.

This is still very positive news for the long term viability of the Switch 2 because having a solid install base means third parties have more incentive to port games to the system.
If multiplatform games continue to be more expensive on Switch2 than on other systems, they'll probably not sell that well anyway. People usually buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games. 3rd parties need to earn their place.
Example Cyberpunk:
Switch2
PS5
PC/GOG
That's a problem with most ports. It's a "new" game on Switch, and many years old game on other platforms.
Proper comparison will be for the games that are released together on Switch and other consoles.

Nintendo rarely goes after other companies for patents. They have tons of patents which can probably be used to sue half the games available these days. They do go after others very aggressively where their IP or trademark is concerned.
Pocketpair is one of the exception, though that case has it's own nuances, and they aren't such a small "indie developer" (have backing of companies like Sony, which has it's own history with Nintendo)
They didn't get the backing of Sony until much later.

It was before the case started, IIRC.

Nintendo already announced their intent far before the case was filed.

Yeah, we try to keep the negativity low, but don't want to become a circle jerk community where nothing negative about Nintendo is allowed.
I'm certainly not saying criticism shouldn't be allowed when it's relevant. When there's news about something bad, by all means discuss it in the relevant thread.
The problem I have is when it's everywhere, at any mention of anything related to Nintendo. Even in a thread like this, for example, we gotta have a whole bunch of drive-by "Hey did you know Nintendo bad? Just thought I'd remind everyone!" comments. It's tiring.

Everything is more expensive on switch
And very rare are good sales

It’s not that I have any blind loyalty to Nintendo or anything like that. I don’t, and I’ve been pissed at many of their recent business decisions.
But the world is so unbelievably shit rn, and watching folks come out of the woodwork for the past few months to shit on Nintendo, call for boycotts, dunk on fans of Nintendo games has been a lot…
So like this? I love this news. So fucking much. I’ve been dealing with depression and family issues and potentially losing my job and my country going full fascist—so video games are one of my only brightspots. And people have made it so fucking negative to be a Nintendo fan. So I just love this middle finger to the haters. Not only were your boycotts a failure, the haters prolly gave Nintendo news-coverage and hype by bitching about it so much.
And what was Nintendo’s big sin anyway? For being a corporation in a capitalist system and maximizing profits, like each and every other for-profit corporation does? Nintendo has done nothing that Microsoft, Sony, Apple, etc. hasn’t also done. So it’s been so fucking frustrating seeing hate thrown to one of the few corporations that hasn’t been fully enshittified and still makes quality products.
Nintendo isn’t perfect. By any means. But they make great products, they aren’t doing straight up evil shit (like Google), and they primarily provide fun games for children. Of all corporations to target, Nintendo really doesn’t deserve the hate campaign.
Moral of the story: don’t yuck people’s yum. Anyways—rant over! Enjoy your Switches and Switch 2s, fellow gamers!
my country going full fascist

There is no mandate by Nintendo that ports must cost 70 Euro, the 3rd parties simply follow the example set by Nintendo. They could sell it for 50 but chose not to.
People who have more than one gaming system have little reason to buy Switch versions of their games. Of the announced Switch 2 games, I already have MK World and looking forward to Metroid Prime 4. Everything else I'm looking forward to, I rather play on Steam Deck where deals are much better and I get stuff like cloud saves for free.

For digital indie games sold on the e-shop it often tends to be the other way around. During sales the price is knocked down more on Switch than on Playstation and Xbox.

Were multiplatform games more expensive on Switch? I don't pay too much attention to prices, but whenever I glance at the Nintendo store something or other is on sale.
Now first party Nintendo games rarely go on sale since they sell well as it is.

Well I'm certain they feel vindicated raising their prices. I'm sure the rest of the Industry will soon follow suit.

It’s almost like people can buy and enjoy whatever they want. If you want to buy a switch2, go ahead, if you don’t, that’s cool to. Gatekeeping has no place here. People are allowed to like what they like.
I mean yes but sadly this will definitly affect others too as nowadays with globalism other companies see this and say hey people really buy any sh*t if you do it like nintendo, even cashgrabs.

I mean thats semi true they have less things that they sell you after a purchase of a licnese to a game. E.g. dlc's or similar. Still they can brick your system any second if they thought you inserted anything they dont like. Thats just a huge predatory step against any consumer rights.

Nintendo really doesn't deserve your money, guys.

Who does tho?
What is your mega corporation of choice then? Sony or Microsoft are no better or worse. Nvidia perhaps? We are walking wallets to all of them

Oh yeah sure
I was talking about this:

Personally, I think DLCs are fine, well at least most of them, I was talking more about micro-transactions in free to play or even paid games by many other publishers. They are specifically designed to be predatory in nature, bus that's a whole other discussion.
As for bricking consoles, all platforms have included that bit in their EULA for over a decade, and they do ban you if they detect you playing pirated stuff, the only difference is (from what I remember reading) that optical disks don't have separate id, but each cartridge has, so it's easier to detect if multiple people are playing the same copy with cartridge then optical drive.
I am not saying they should be allowed that, I am in support of customers allowed to do whatever they want with the hardware they bought (though I am also against piracy, especially for entertainment purposes), but this doesn't make them "more" predatory than their competitors. There are things Sony or MS does that Nintendo doesn't, and there are things Nintendo does that Sony or MS doesn't. All of them, like pretty much any company, do what they think will make them most money.
I forget the point I was making, but it's somewhere there

Yeah, I agree.
