Those are some interesting apps of choice. Good thing people share these, in case people don't know about them yet.

Wait until you hear about people calling chat apps like WhatsApp social media.
In a society that uses terms such as "fake news" and "peaceful war", I'm not surprised words have lost meaning in all areas, lol.

Five Second Films used to make some great shorts back in the day. I think there is a niche for them, but then everyone's like, oh, I can be funny for five seconds, and like everything, it becomes oversaturated with shit.

No they said in 2025, it must be like a country or something
If they said on 2025, it would mean it was an island.

1min? Only if half the screen is someone playing with slime or subway surfer
The complete lack of attention span is staggering. Half a video of slime, other half some girl doing makeup or pretending to be multiple characters in some nonsense scenario.

Someone I know can't even finish most tiktoks.
Cull em.

Or fucking Venmo
"If you can comment on it, it's social media."
I can comment on how stupid that is, but that doesn't make it social media. The term was invented to describe the likes of Facebook, and it's predecessors and ... Postdecessors. Antecedents? No that's the same. Successors. There we go. Had to work that out.

Those were pretty much social sites using text with a tiny bit of media (occasional images).
Social media has a big emphasis on the media part, with video clips and images and so on for starting most of the discussions. Twitter started off mostly text and kind of became social media based on the screenshot I have seen of it.
And I think social media revolved heavily around people sharing the mundanity of their everyday life with the world, and in my experience, that was very rarely the point of message boards or forums.

I can’t finish a tiktok video at all. The insane amount of brain-melting shit all over the screen, horrible subtitle styles, video cuts, and ubiquitously sped-up shit makes me super uncomfortable.
You forgot the repeatedly, overused and brain wrecking sound FX ! Horrible... How can an human support those uncanny sound effects again and again... And again !!!
Yes those are not new and were already present in movies YEARS ago ! But the same sound effect every second on every tiktok? Ugh... Horrible.

There's loads of quality content on YouTube. You just have to create your subscriber list and not pay attention to the Home tab, which is, and always has been, utter garbage.

You’re telling on Yourself or you just haven’t used it long enough for it to learn you because the algorithm show shows you what you want way better than YouTube shorts I’ve found. Remember that senator that was saying TikTok was just full of thirst traps…

I'm not hating or anything—and you're right, at least with what I've seen I do get a lot of shorts based on what I personally subscribe to. I don't always get that but the ones I like I already recognize who they're from. I was mainly just pointing out how its changed over time to have shorter videos. People still make longer vids, yes. All I'm saying is once upon a time, people were fighting to get longer videos. It's just silly to me that now because Google has to "compete" with TikTok, they purposefully embed this kind of thing on their platform which, as I say, is just silly to me. No hate... just silly.
