I eat them from time to time but I don't really like the taste. The sauce is super sweet like ketchup but without the tang. It's very boring and bland and no matter what spices I add it somehow doesn't get better. Really weird.

you have never had mexican food with beans? african food with beans? latin american food woth beans? middle eastern food with beans? cajun food with beans? all the best beans in this world and you choose the ones jacked up with sugar probably to keep you addicted to sweets?

My sibling in Christ — half of these, and others. Sometimes you want English breakfast beans. You buy Heinz and they're sweet, but okay. You grab the sugar-free ones by accident and they're artificially sweetened and a crime.

Wait? Why would you have sugar in beans?

In France we have sugar in green pea. I usually look for a brand without it. I don't see why someone would buy sweened legume if not to cook some asian sweet.

Ask Heinz – there's sugar in the tomato sauce.

All the memes about those things got me interested in actually trying them. Turns out those light-blue packaged ones are a pain in the ass to find in the US - eventually spotted in the European section of a 'world foods' type grocer. Now I'm excited to dive in: not expecting magic or anything, but this much hype on the internet is founded on something surely.

Even made toast to eat em with to get the full experience.

They tasted like... beans. They're just beans. Nothing special about the flavor or texture. On toast they taste like beans + bread.

You fuckers had me so pumped for that shit, and they're just fuckin' beans.

3/10. Sated hunger and curiosity. Nothing else.

Gotta butter the bread and put some cheese on the beans!

Essential part of an English breakfast; “baked beans” like the ones the US typically have on shelves don’t work

Eggs bacon beans mushroom tomato sausage fried bread black pudding white pudding ….. am I missing anything?

thought you didn't know beans without sugar didn't exist with the wording 👀 was just informing you there are plenty of ways to eat beans without sugar and still enjoy beans 🙂

None of those are baked beans though.

Because sometimes you put sugar in savoury stuff? Have you never had barbeque sauce before?

The "beanz" name makes it sound like it's an artificial mockery of the real thing, like chicken "wyngz".

I get that but what is the issue with not having sugar in your beans? That a plus in my book.

Theres no issue with sugarless beans, but baked beans is a recipe with beans and sugar. If you take the sugar out its not the same recipe.

Oh I see. I thought baked bean meant a bean that is already cooked. I didn't knew it is was a specific recipe.
