On some free-to-play pay-to-win MMO about 15 years ago my guild leader spent about £500 on premium items for me. Not just me, also everyone else in the guild, I reckon he was down about £10,000 all in. Kept telling him not to but he was insistent.

I cant quite understand who exists in the Venn diagram between "has 10k spare to blow on nonsense" and "actually will do that"

If i had that kind of money just to play with I'd be on jet skis or hot air balloons or something.

A friend of mine played A LOT of Aion. The player who spent by far the most money later turned out to be a member of Qatar's royal family. I can't tell you much because the game was confusing and I was not that interested, but according to my friend, he also paid for alot of in-game junk for his guild. So he fits right into that cross section.
