Women also are feeling like they have the ability to refuse when before they didn't.
Women are also scared of pregnancy in a way they haven't been since the fecking 1900s.
Because now, you get pregnant. A doctor will let you die before they will provide medical care if that medical care has any chance of harming a fetus. Even if the fetus is dead.
Women are dying from pregnancy.
Women are no longer able to terminate an early pregnancy safely.Women are scared.

I'm not saying people don't have sex as they get older (though there is ample evidence out there that they tend to have less). I'm saying that women are less likely to put up with a broke ass older man than a young stud. As you get older you become more prized as a breadwinner than you do as just a toy boy.
Ah, okay, I didn't see that from the comment tree. I don't think that's gender specific though; if anything, women seem even more likely to be rejected due to age than men. And there's also other confounding factors with age: as your cohort ages, they get paired off, and have less time to devote to dating, and do have a somewhat decreased sex drive pushing them out there. So the dating pool is quite a bit smaller - even if your looks didn't diminish, it likely won't carry you as far as your dating pool ages regardless of economic factors.

My wife and I go through hot & cold spells. I think we have similar drives, but our timing doesn't always match up. I'm more of a "harness the power of the morning wood" sort of fellow. She's more of a "I want it right now but he's still at work" sort of gal. We both talk a big game, but work, childcare and adulting conspire against us.

hmm what? Unless I missed a very big part of this, you're not dropping a percentage of your soul when you have sex, it usually conclude with a good shower, and if you were not cautious at all with protection, a pill.
The pill isn't your choice and soon they'll take the pill away entirely to shore up the numbers of the working class but you end up footing the bill, for life. At least it does give purpose to the endless busywork that you have to do to pay for the mistake of intimacy.

I remember growing up, you could go to a bar with friends, meet some people and there was always someone hooking up quickly.
Or you grabbed a phone number and you were good for later.Now it's more "are you 6 foot tall?" "do you make six figures?" "what's your snap or insta?" "are you a racist nazi that will murder me in my sleep?"
Then they can always say, ehhh, your not attractive enough for me, i'll go on tinder and DM one of the 60 guys waiting for me. BYEEEEEEEE

It could be the aging population. If 100% of people 20-40 have sex and 0% of 40-60 then that's 50% if both groups are equally strong.
Now if it's 1/3 and 2/3 then it's only 33%.

Besides plenty of other reasons people mentioned, Gen Z in particular is pretty antisocial. I've seen them hang out at bars, they might get one drink and just stare at their phone. Just anecdotal, but from what I've gathered it definitely feels like those type of folk either don't know how to have fun or are averse to it. I don't mean that in a completely negative way, either. I think covid really made a lot of people in general more socially inept. Again, I don't mean that to denegrate and I've definitely felt that a bit myself.

COVID had a huge impact, but in general things seem pretty much the same as when I was in school in the 90's/early aughts, except they're on smartphones instead of Nokias. They just seem normal to me.

I just find the concept hilarious. Borrow some expensive... sex... to then immediately sell it... then regularly pay lender with small amount of sex as a fee for the sex loan... then when the time is right buy some cheap sex, return sex to lender... and that's how one gets sex when sex is in decline.
