      What rise?

A single.person on the right was shot, and historically it's still most likely the person who pulled the trigger was another far right extremist.

The only unique thing recently is it was a fascist bigot who was shot.

Political division, erosion of democracy and the continuous movement towards fascism.

They were probably referring to the 2 democrats who were shot dead in Minnesota. Aside from Kirk.

Chickens coming home to roost. The 2 "sides" have drifted too far apart. There's no compromise or middle ground when it comes to human rights. Seeing eye to eye is no longer possible.

They said "deaths" not "killings," and "public figures" not "politicians."

I don't think there's anything unique that explains the increase in celebrity deaths though.

The other commenters seem to have not realized OP said "deaths" not "killings," and "public figures" not "politicians."

I don't think there's anything unique that explains the increase in celebrity deaths though. 20th century celebs be old.
