Come now, there are legitimately shoe designs that can give you 15+% speed increase.

It's not all intuitive, there's some pretty wild physics going on in some shoes

Do you have a source on that?

Last I heard “super spikes” can increase performance in track runners by like 2% and that’s basically it. Most of the rest of running shoe designs are based on weight and comfort but competitive shoe brands aren’t really one upping each other on a 15% margin

But they're not all red, so we can't be sure. Still need to ask.

I asked one of my coworkers if their ankle weights made them run faster and everyone looked at me like I was stupid.

The best shoes don't really increase your speed, but does reduce impact energy loss so you're less strained and can run for longer. Sometimes it may allow you to run faster, mostly by reducing friction/waste (depends on how you run and more)

They all have brands and distinct styles, though. And I'm not implying that there is or is not any performance difference in shoes; only that a lot of adults know which ones do and do not. Lotta people really into shoes. 🤷‍♂️

I guess that's fair, I'm not into shoes but I could spot running shoes at a glance

This is a very valid question to ask. The answer is "sorta", but only when you remove the weights.
