Meta: “We're Still Investing Massively In VR Gaming And Don't Plan To Stop”

Get META outta your 401k
I don't think there's a total stock market index fund that only omits Meta.

Until Valve releases the Deckard, or whatever their next iteration VR hardware will be named, they'll have to pry my Valve Index from my cold dead hands. No way in hell would i ever own anything from Meta/FB.

That is mostly my experience. I found a few or that meta is not ine of the top investments. Fidelity has a few. When I get home I may post them.

The Quest 2 and 3 finally are a properly viable platform that millions of people use, but it still feels like Meta doesn't want it to be a "Microsoft's Xbox" sort of situation, they still want it to be a "Google's Android" situation instead. It's been an utterly bizarre time watching all of this occur in real time as someone that bought her first headset in 2017; their priorities have always been completely misaligned with the achievements they're actually making.

I have the Quest 2 before the rebrand. It was great, loved playing bowling with it, but they really do need move beyond being Daydream on steroids.

And I still won't buy your garbage data collection headset. I saw the day coming well in advance when they eventually forced the login with a meta/Facebook account. I'm not interested in that, and even though they removed it their hand was played. I will not invest in that.
Everyone has a FB account whether they created it or not, and I'm sure Meta found a way to link their VR headsets to your account even if it's not obvious.

At least it's something tangibly useful. Unlike "AI". I'm for it.
Diversify from selling personal data

Unfortunately the VR is just another avenue for them to get data to sell

I would appreciate that.

There are so many people using WhatsApp that have to share their contacts with them to get a remotely usable UI that I’m certain that you’re correct.

Meta sucks on the whole but I love my Quest 3.
That's where I'm at. I got one for Christmas and then learned about all of the politicization after the fact. Now when I play Walkabout Mini Golf I have fun, but also hate myself for not throwing it all away.

Playing games is the thing I almost never do on my Quest 3, I mostly just lie down and watch movies and TV on it, but it's too bulky and uncomfortable for that, the new Bigscreen Beyond 2 looks amazing for that use, unfortunately it costs more than double of Quest 3, I'll save up for it and sell my Quest 3 in the future, cause fuck Zuck

Well, it is their money they ate burning. Good luck with that.

If only we could fully block it from talking to Meta's servers. It's the cheapest headset I can find to purchase but I don't want Meta having a 3D map of my house 🤮

Wild to think they've spent $100B on VR and for tons of people it's probably still a "Beat Saber" machine. I mean, respect to Beat Saber.

Speaking of... Aside from socializing, rhythm, exercise, and sports seem like a reasonable niche market for VR. The Wii sure showed it was possible since it uses the same principles for the controls.
