You don't even have a name. You are just some states in (the continent of) America that just happen to be united for some reason
"Columbia" was pitched but didn't catch on, except for Washington District of Columbia

Included American pop culture character to draw attention of Americans.
Lemmy has been one of the best places online for toning down the American emphasis (although I think my blacklist keywords filters help a lot with that.... Highly recommended).
Lemmy has better European/Australian representation, but there isn't much Asian or African representation though.

How about US-American?
Yup, that works. All French-Europeans, German-Europeans and Polish-Europeans enthusiastically approve

Honestly no, I think it's worse here. I blocked so many communities because they're just about US politics, but that stuff is still everywhere, even in generic meme communities.

I was half joking
My point is that one of the things that gets on my nerves (and of many people that live in America, the continent, outside of the U.S.) is that USAians call their country a plain "America". United States of America doesn't sound like an actual name like e.g. Panama or Brasil, and sounds more like "we are some states in the American continent that are united"
Ayo, never seen no one express opinions like these, like mine, out in the wild! They do call themselves America, despite being only part of the continent. And their uncreative name. Big brain move they had there. Like a Monty Python sketch. I could see it to the tune of the witch scene
"What are countries made of?"
"Land?"
"People."
"…Cows."
"A church."
…
"States!"
"That's right! And where are these states?"I like to call them 'Muricans sometimes, to differentiate 'Murica (US) and the real America, the much bigger and, thanks to other countries, generally better one.

Sick, I live in the middle of the continent as well! I can also drive 1 mile in each direction and still be in the united states, so must live super close! But I'm a little confused why you use miles? Everybody I know always uses km here in Germany
he said 1000miles.
The US cant be compared to Germany. Based on size, population, and biome variation, the US can only be compared to Europe

When the bullets are American, it is relevant.

I think reddit was more diverse, many local communities, language specific communities, etc.

Blaming America is relevant. Whining about their domestic politics when the part guy sent as much bullet as the new one is inhumane and tone deaf. Real people are fucking dying

I hope one day they get to visit our glorious nation and get a taste of real freedom.
I am not going to take a plane across the ocean, just to get imprisoned, tortured and deported.

Reddit would allow you to completely ignore USA centric content since it was so big
If you ban all communities on lemmy that are related to the USA or could have posts related to the USA, there would be less than a post a day

Either you've blocked half the platform or you're joking because I constantly fight with others for posting american politics in general communities.

When the new guy is planning some ethnic cleansing, is not tone deaf.

Yeah whereas the old guy didn't planned to send all those bombs, it was just an oopsie /s
Fucking genocide apologist scum

Unfortunately America is relevant to most of the world rn. Wish it wasn't though
My grocery store has an icon on products that have tariffs on it, aka u.s. only. With maple leaf symbols on stuff made, or packaged in canada.

wrote on last edited by [email protected]It's the first thing. Glad to see it working. I do still have to ignore a lot of USA-centric political memes and it annoys me that political content doesn't stay in the designated political areas.
I welcome suggestions for active communities that are non-political.

Well, someone bringing USA into conversation was absolutely expected since it was news community.
The reason I got butthurt and made this post is because how it was brought into conversation, like you know, some "wise observer" perspective, but from someone who couldn't be really characterized as wise.
