There's a beta test branch on Steam that was uploaded 5 months ago, and the game has been age rated in South Korea. Yes, that game is coming. For good reason, it's also the belle of the ball when it comes to marketing deals, so as much as it's a meme to say maybe it's at the next Nintendo Direct, it might be at the next Nintendo Direct. For everyone's sake, I hope it gets its release date soon so that we can stop talking about it.

If it was at the direct, they would have rolled with the "teasers" that people invented

Six years of hype, it never going to live up too. Team Cherry did this to themselves.

are they still working on it? yes? then it will come out when it comes out. There's enough content in my backlog to keep me occupied for another 5 years at least, and more new games release every day. I can wait.

I want them to take all the time they need. The more time in the oven, the better.

Only as long as it's not in the oven so long due to mismanagement and constantly changing direction.

                Ohh uh yeah good point.

I didn’t check, but I’d guess it’s the same small group of people who made the first one.

Maybe at this point they are holding off to make it a switch 2 launch title.

It could be the sudden and unexpected success of Hollow Knight paralyzing them the way that happened with Valhiem. Not that it's necessarily a fault of the devs; you hit a huge success like that, there is now a weight on your shoulder to always be that good.

This could be, hollow knight is one hell of a bar to clear. Valhiem was a lesson that studios are hard to scale up, and doing it distracts from development. There's also something to be said about making a dream project, then having the focus and drive to keep it going and expanding.

Annd It's possible their main dev might be addicted to balatro and there's no way to factor or predict that kind of impact.

Development on your game being delayed because you're too busy playing another game is perfectly fair.

It is hard to make a sequel to the best game of all time, unless it is the new best game of all time. I'm not sure the extended dev time is the dominant issue here.

It doesn't have to be the best game of all time. It just has to be at least as good as Hollow Knight.

Power to them. I'm sure Hollow Knight made them all independently wealthy. I'd be hard pressed to bother to work too hard, too.

I just don't see it happening at this point. I hope they prove me wrong but my intention is telling me it'll be at most 7/10.

My prediction is that Silksong will be a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title or something similar.

The lack of communication from Team Cherry is the only issue, and it’s the primary thing that makes me skeptical about the game ever releasing. If they were working on the game for this long, they’d at least have enough material to give us some kind of an update. It could be as small as a blog post.

Not to imply that they owe us that or anything. They possibly are just completely disinterested in marketing. It’s a little hard to believe given the amazing trailer that they put together years ago, but it’s still possible.

Even that would be difficult for any developer.

They do kinda owe people something - at least those that contributed to the funding of the first game. Silksong was originally a 2nd playable character that was unlocked as a reward from the Kickstarter for Hollow Knight. Then it turned into a DLC, and now it's turned into a full game.
