I'm glad to provide a positive space for you guys to enjoy these amazing birds. I've learned so much along with many of you, and now I'm getting to do things and see things I never would have imagined. I'm always so pleased to spend so much time talking animals and whatever else comes up with you all!

Did you ever go through say, a hawk or kite phase before settling on owls?

Owls are just cool and mysterious. They’ve been around for over 60 million years, but from them being a very solitary and largely nocturnal type of animal, there is still so much we don’t know about them. There are still around 250 different owl species. They live on every continent except Antarctica. There are so many different shapes, sizes, sounds, colors, etc. Every part of them is specialized and they have many anatomical features we don't have that would be so alien to us. Even their feathers are different than all other birds.

Here's a few of our favorites:

            White Faced Scops

            Flammulated Owl

            Bay Owl

            Morepork

I do most of the posting, and I'm focused on animal rehab and education rather than meme type things, so it's a bit different than you may be expecting. It still may not be for everyone, but I think there is a lot of information that would please anyone with an interest in animals or science.

I've enjoyed a ton of animals before owls. The last big one was the hippo, which I still believe to be the true King of Beasts. But since coming here and seeing the early rise of this group here start to fall off, I didn't want to see it fizzle out, so I shared what personal photos I had first, and then just started researching, and now after close to 2000 posts on them, I'm still learning new things.

I do love the other raptors as well, though doing all the owl work for here is already a job in itself. I wish Lemmy would have not copied Reddit directly with a Superbowl. If it was a general raptor forum, I would be covering all of them. I'm a big fan of vultures, caracaras, and peregrines, but they are all such beautiful animals. There is a large variety of them, and they are all pretty significantly different due to their different prey types and hunting styles.

Having started working with them on the weekends, I'm not running low on excitement for learning more about all of them. They are just amazing to witness in person and to learn about first hand.

Pretty sure the third is also a snowy, but a female. Could be wrong though.

That would be my guess, though it could be a young male that hasn't lost his spots yet.

Sometimes you just get caught in a bean loop. It could've happened a dozen, a hundred times by now. It's impossible to tell.
