What I find really interesting in this article is that for the most part, society treated him normally. When it came up to a potential legal matter, that’s when it came up.
I think we take for granted this idea that LGBT people have always been not accepted by their societies. Certainly his wealth and status factored into things, but ultimately the man joined the military. He become a Buddhist monk. He was seen as a man by basically everyone around him.

I think that's a great point. No one should be known as trans, they should be known for who they are. Things they've gone through is interesting, but no one is a singular event.
