And L is definitely not my size. Plus, what if I was going to buy something for my cousin or my husband? My wife? What if I had a newborn? The size is the wrong characteristic to determine based on previous purchases or what a thousand other shoppers have purchased.... Ofcourse you're getting L! Its the thing in the middle! The average!

Yeah. Ideally Amazon uses its vast collection of data to cross-reference purchases and returns that were labeled "too small" or "too large" to power these size suggestions, which would make them actually useful. But if that is too expensive, it's just some AI bullshit guess.

I recently bought some new trainings shirts. They had a size table so I spent like 10min getting all my measurements and choosing the size that should fit. Only for it being too tight around the chest. Wtf Nike, why even bother

I'm guessing you are a dude. As a woman - I am usually a medium now, which makes logical sense, but sometimes need S or L, even in stuff from the same company. Or something called a 28 or 29, even though no part of me is 29" around. Sizing of clothing for women is wildly inconsistent, and even the size charts don't help, they lie.
So I do use those recommendations.
